Things that keep an airway-focused Speech Pathologist up at night 👻
“ They’ll grow out of it.”
“ Snoring is normal.”
“ They’re just a picky eater.”
“ They breathe fine during the day.”
… and more.
Many of these are commonly dismissed, but they can sometimes be signs of underlying airway and oral function concerns.
Poor airway health doesn’t just affect breathing. It can impact sleep quality, feeding, facial growth, behaviour, attention, regulation, and the nervous system too. When children and adults aren’t breathing optimally, especially during sleep, the body can remain in a constant state of stress or “fight or flight,” making true rest and regulation difficult.
Teeth grinding, mouth breathing, restless sleep, enlarged tonsils, fatigue, feeding difficulties, and restricted oral tissues are often overlooked or normalised, when they may actually be pieces of a much bigger picture.
As a Speech Pathologist trained in Orofacial Myology, at Savi Communicators we are passionate about looking beyond symptoms alone and supporting individuals through airway-focused, collaborative care 🤍
