When people think about employment, they often focus on job titles.
But finding the right role is about more than choosing a particular job. It's about understanding your strengths, interests and the type of work environment where you can thrive.

✅ What are you good at?
✅ What tasks do you enjoy?
✅ What skills come naturally to you?
✅ What kind of workplace feels comfortable and supportive?

The answers to these questions can help identify employment pathways that are a good fit, even if they don't match the career options you first had in mind.

Inclusive Employment Australia, delivered by ProActiv People in partnership with Autism SA, takes a strengths-based approach to employment support. Rather than focusing only on finding a job, the program helps autistic adults explore their strengths, build confidence, develop employment goals and connect with suitable opportunities.

Everyone's employment journey is different. By focusing on strengths first, it's possible to find opportunities that are meaningful, sustainable and aligned with individual goals.

✅ Developing skills and confidence to prepare for employment

✅ Supporting employers to create inclusive workplaces
✅ Providing ongoing support once employment begins

Finding a job is important—but finding the right job is what supports long-term success.
Through Inclusive Employment Australia (IEA) delivered by Proactiv People, the focus isn’t just on placement. It’s about matching people with roles that align with their strengths, interests and goals.

So what does the “right job” actually mean in practice?
✅ A role that fits individual strengths
Every person has unique skills and ways of working.
The right job builds on those strengths—supporting confidence, performance and long-term growth.

✅ A supportive work environment
The workplace itself plays a big role in success.
This may include:
✔️Clear communication
✔️Structured expectations
✔️Practical adjustments where needed

Inclusive environments help people do their best work over time.
✅ A pace that works for the individual
Not everyone follows the same pathway.
IEA takes a personalised approach—supporting people at a pace that suits their goals and circumstances.

✅ Ongoing support, not just placement
The “right job” is one that lasts.
Support continues beyond starting work, helping people:
✔️Settle into their role
✔️Build skills and confidence
✔️Maintain and grow in employment over time

The idea of the “right job” goes beyond simply being hired—it means finding meaningful work where someone feels supported, can contribute, and build a sustainable career.

Common barriers autistic jobseekers face - how IEA helps overcome them
Finding and keeping a job can come with challenges that aren’t always visible.

How employers adapt roles to support autistic employees?
Inclusive workplaces don’t require completely new roles—they often involve small, thoughtful adjustments that help people do their best work.

Through Inclusive Employment Australia delivered by Proactiv People, employers are supported to create roles that align with a person’s strengths and work style, rather than expecting individuals to fit into a rigid job structure.

So what does this look like in practice?
✅ Matching tasks to strengths
Roles can be shaped around an individual’s strengths, interests and skills—helping improve job fit, confidence and performance over time.

✅ Adjusting how work is done
This might include:
✔️Clear and structured communication
✔️Flexible ways of completing tasks
✔️Consistent routines or expectations

✅ Making simple workplace adjustments
Employers may introduce practical changes such as:
✔️Modified workspaces
✔️Adjusted processes
✔️Tailored onboarding support

These adjustments are often simple, but can make a meaningful difference to how someone experiences work.

✅ Ongoing support for both employee and employer
Support doesn’t stop once someone is hired.
Providers work alongside employers to:
✔️Offer guidance and advice
✔️Support workplace inclusion practices
✔️Help maintain sustainable employment outcomes

Inclusive employment is about creating environments where people can contribute, grow, and remain in work over time—not just be placed into a role.

What does on-the-job support actually look like?
Finding a job is one step — but support doesn’t stop there.

Through Inclusive Employment Australia, delivered by ProActiv People in partnership with Autism SA, support continues once someone starts work, helping them settle in, build confidence, and succeed in their role over time.

So what does that support actually look like in practice?
Before starting a job
✅Support begins by understanding the individual:
✅Identifying strengths, interests, and career goals
✅Creating a personalised pathway to employment
✅Building skills and confidence through tailored coaching and training

During the first weeks on the job
Starting a new role can be a big transition. Support may include:
✅Guidance to help navigate the workplace
✅Assistance with communication and expectations
✅Practical workplace adjustments, where needed

Ongoing support at work
Support doesn’t end after placement. It continues to help people stay in work and grow:
✅Job coaching and check-ins
✅Support for both the employee and employer
✅Adjustments over time as needs change
✅A focus on long-term success — not just placement

With Inclusive Employment Australia, Proactiv People focuses on matching people with the right job, then providing the tailored support needed to succeed in it—not just secure it.

Autism SA and ProActiv People attended the Adelaide Disability & WorkAbility Expo on 26th–27th June at the Adelaide Showground.

Over the two days, our teams had the opportunity to connect with community members, families, job seekers, employers, and service providers, sharing information about our services and programs while having many meaningful conversations. We were encouraged by the strong interest shown by attendees and appreciated the chance to build new connections within the community.

As part of the event, the Sensory Bus, owned by the Government of South Australia and operated by Autism SA, was available to provide a calm, sensory-friendly space for visitors who needed a break from the busy expo environment. Throughout the day, it offered a welcoming place for people to pause, regulate, and recharge. 🚌💜

Thank you to everyone who visited our stands and stopped by the Sensory Bus.

Supporting your autistic child through their first job 💼
(what parents wish they knew earlier)

A first job can be exciting — and overwhelming. Many parents tell us they wished they’d known earlier that employment support isn’t just about getting a job, but about finding the right fit and having support once work begins.

Through Inclusive Employment Australia, delivered by ProActiv People in partnership with Autism SA, autistic adults (18+) can access employment support designed specifically for autism.

Parents and carers often find support is most helpful when it:
✅builds confidence before applications and interviews
✅helps young people find roles that match their strengths
✅supports workplaces to make practical adjustments
✅provides ongoing support if challenges arise once a job starts

Who the program is for:
Inclusive Employment Australia supports autistic adults (18+) with a confirmed diagnosis who want help to prepare for work, find employment, or stay in a job.

Support includes:
✅Job preparation and confidence‑building
✅Connections to inclusive employers
✅Ongoing, personalised support once work begins

📍 Current capacity is available across Northern Adelaide — including Elizabeth, Salisbury, Gawler and Modbury.
Support is also available across Adelaide, with additional hubs at Christies Beach, Tonsley, Seaton and Port Adelaide.
