inward traces an intimate movement through descent, crucible, union and return — following the psyche into darkness, dissolution, eros and the slow, luminous work of being remade from within.

My creative life has been deeply important to me since my teenage years, but also something that I have kept intensely private. As seems to happen in your 40’s, I have found myself contemplating over and over what it is that I want this next chapter of my life to look like. It is not about dramatically shifting course, but allowing the spaces around me to expand so that I can share more of who I am.

Part of this is beginning to share my creative life with the world. I write. I create art. I have a devotion to my inner life and the symbolic world.

As I expand into these new spaces, I humbly ask for your support. This could look like following my new creative social accounts (link below), sharing a post, leaving a comment, checking out my creative website (you will find the details for that in to bio over on my new page evolvingground.art)

Thank you for continuing on this ever evolving journey with me 🙏🏻

erin riley is a writer and artist whose work moves between the inner world and the outer landscape — poetry, prose and image emerging from the depths of dream, contemplative practice and the stillness of sacred spaces across the world.

inward is crafted around the four basic movements of transformation — descent, crucible, union and return.

a journey that can be a recurring rhythm throughout our lives, moving us toward a grounded centre.

this is one of my favourite pieces of writing in my book. it is the final piece at the end of the crucible section, about half way through the book. at this point the reader has accompanied me through the descent into darkness and through the fire that forges something new.

for me, this piece speaks to how life begins to reorganise after destruction. how the psyche finds a new ecology, rather than attempting to restore the old one.

the imagery in this piece comes precisely from a dream image. it was simultaneously eerie and beautiful to dream this dream.

may this piece of writing spark something in the depths of your own imagination.

Here is a little sneak peek into a project I have been working on for the past 18 months.

INWARD: Poems of Descent and Return is a collection born from years of dreams, descent, grief, transformation, and the slow work of becoming. These poems trace the journey into the underworld of the psyche and back again—through darkness, fire, love, loss, and renewal.

Pre-orders are open, and every pre-order helps support this first limited print run of just 300 copies.

Thank you to everyone who has already chosen to support my writing and this book, it means the world 🙏🏻

Honouring our natural rhythms is important. We cannot constantly create and we cannot give from an empty vessel.
