My creative life has been deeply important to me since my teenage years, but also something that I have kept intensely private. As seems to happen in your 40’s, I have found myself contemplating over and over what it is that I want this next chapter of my life to look like. It is not about dramatically shifting course, but allowing the spaces around me to expand so that I can share more of who I am.

Part of this is beginning to share my creative life with the world. I write. I create art. I have a devotion to my inner life and the symbolic world.

this is one of my favourite pieces of writing in my book. it is the final piece at the end of the crucible section, about half way through the book. at this point the reader has accompanied me through the descent into darkness and through the fire that forges something new.

for me, this piece speaks to how life begins to reorganise after destruction. how the psyche finds a new ecology, rather than attempting to restore the old one.

the imagery in this piece comes precisely from a dream image. it was simultaneously eerie and beautiful to dream this dream.

may this piece of writing spark something in the depths of your own imagination.
