This week, my 15-year-old son once again reminded me why everything we do matters.

Not because of anything he achieved.

Not because of a sporting result.

Not because of a certificate or award.

Because he asked me-multiple times-to make an essential oil blend for one of his mates who had injured himself playing football.

If you've followed Leon's journey over the past few months, you'll know he has been recovering from a significant ACL and MCL injury from rugby union.

His recovery has involved a daily commitment to supporting his body naturally. Electrolytes. Collagen. Lifelong Vitality Supplements. Consistent movement. Rest. And a carefully selected blend of essential oils massaged into the area throughout the day to support comfort, recovery and wellbeing.

And while he'll jokingly refer to me as his "witchy mum", the fact that he has enough belief in what supported him that he wants to share it with a mate means more than he'll ever know.

Because I've never wanted to simply raise boys who know about plant medicine.

I've wanted to raise boys who care.

Boys who notice.

Boys who lead with compassion.

Boys who aren't afraid to offer support when someone is hurting.

The oils are just the vehicle.

The real lesson has always been kindness.

And if we're changing the next generation, I think it looks a lot like young men who check in on their mates, share what has helped them, and aren't afraid to care deeply about the people around them.

That's the future I'm here for ♡♡♡

For so long we've been taught that education happens when someone teaches and when a child perfectly regurgitates information on request.

But some of the most powerful learning happens when a child follows their own curiosity.

Years ago, while we were travelling Australia full-time in our bus, Leon became fascinated with music.

It started with a little keyboard balanced on his lap as we bounced from one corner of the country to another.

What began as curiosity quickly became passion.

Soon enough, we found ourselves planning parts of our travels around public pianos. We'd arrive in a new town and one of the first things we'd search for wasn't the local attractions- it was the nearest street piano.

Fast forward a few years and we're now doing our best to be a fully functioning family in four walls and he spotted a piano being given away for free on Marketplace. We brought it home, and now most days you'll find him completely immersed in musi for hours on end.

Not because anyone told him to.

Not because it was on a curriculum.

Not because there was an assessment at the end.

Because he loves it.

Hours disappear as he experiments, practises, creates and now composes his own music.

And isn't that what real learning looks like?

A child becoming so captivated by something that they willingly devote thousands of hours to mastering it.

No rewards.
No punishments.
No external pressure.

Just pure intrinsic motivation.

Not bad for a fully homeschooled kid who's half deaf, has never had a piano lesson in his life, and taught himself to play anyway. 🤣🤍

The more time I spend around children, the more convinced I become that our job isn't to fill them with information.

It's to protect their curiosity long enough for them to discover who they already are.

The world doesn't need more standardised children.

It needs more children who know how to follow what makes them come alive.

I think a lot of mothers are carrying a quiet grief.

The grief of realising how many things we've had to relearn.

How many beliefs we've had to question.

How many patterns we've had to consciously break.

Not because our parents failed us.

But because every generation receives information the previous generation didn't have access to.

We're the generation learning about nervous systems, emotional intelligence, gut health, environmental toxins, plant medicine, community and connection.

We're the generation choosing to slow down enough to ask:

"Is this actually serving my family?"

And perhaps that's one of the greatest gifts we can give our children.

Not perfection.

Not certainty.

But the courage to think differently.

I put down the distractions.
I listen to your stories,

Watching Leon run onto the field this weekend at the NSW Rugby Union Championships was one of those moments that fills your heart with gratitude.

Just a few short months ago, after damaging both his ACL and MCL, we honestly weren't sure what his recovery would look like. Yet here he is, back doing what he loves.

How they should look.
How they should behave.
What success should look like.
What they need to buy, achieve, change, or become before they are finally "enough."

But what if our greatest role as parents isn't to prepare our children to fit into the world?

What if it's to help them remember who they are before the world tells them otherwise?

To raise children who trust themselves.
Who know their worth isn't tied to their appearance, performance, popularity, or possessions.
Who understand that mistakes don't diminish their value.
Who can hold strong boundaries, think for themselves, and stay true to their values even when it's uncomfortable.

Because a child who knows their worth becomes an adult who doesn't spend decades searching for it.

An adult who can build healthy relationships.
Pursue dreams without fear of failure.
Stand up for what matters.
And contribute something meaningful to the world from a place of wholeness rather than lack.

That kind of confidence isn't loud.

25 Years of loving you ♡

A lifetime of ordinary moments that became extraordinary because we lived them together.

A young love that grew through seasons we never could have imagined.
Through building a life, raising our boys, chasing dreams, carrying responsibilities, learning who we are, and choosing each other again and again.

Twenty-five years of laughter that echoed through homes, road trips, late nights, hard conversations, business, celebrations, and quiet moments when words weren’t needed.

We have lived many lives inside this one marriage.

We have changed.
We have grown.
We have weathered storms and stood in sunshine.
We have held each other through uncertainty and stood side by side through adventures, challenges, sacrifice and joy.

You have been my safe place, my teammate, my constant.

I look at the life we have created - our family, our memories, the miles travelled, the lessons learned, the love woven through every chapter - and I feel deeply grateful.

Not because life has always been easy, but because it has been real and beautiful with you by my side, my partner in crime, my bff.

Twenty-five years of partnership.
Of commitment.
Of choosing love in the everyday moments.
Of choosing optimism, of forever looking for the silver lining, of being each other's up when the other is down. Of laughter, sooooo much laughter.

What a privilege it has been to walk beside you through this life.

And somehow, after all these years, I still find myself thankful that out of all the paths we could have taken, ours became one. The best one of all.
