Genuine question β€” what do you expect to get from one naturopathy appointment?

In one session I can take your history, identify patterns, and start building a picture of what's actually going on. What I can't do is undo years of gut damage, rebalance your microbiome, fix your hormones, or rewire your nervous system in 60-90 minutes.

Real results require real commitment. That means testing, not guessing. It means working through the layers β€” not just slapping a probiotic on top and hoping for the best. It means showing up, following through, and trusting the process even when it feels slow.

If you came once and didn't come back, I want you to ask yourself honestly β€” were you looking for a quick fix, or were you ready to actually investigate what's going on?

Because I can find the answers. But only if you're willing to stay for the investigation.

πŸ” Stop suppressing. Start investigating.

You're doing everything right. And your gut still isn't healing.

You've changed your diet. You're taking the supplements. You're following the protocol. And yet β€” still bloated, still reactive, still exhausted, still wondering what you're missing.

Here's what may be happening.

Your nervous system is stuck in survival mode, so your gut cannot heal.

Your gut and your brain are in constant two-way communication via the vagus nerve β€” the longest nerve in your body and the direct line between your brain and your digestive system. When you are chronically stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, or running on empty, your body prioritises survival over digestion. Every single time.

In that state:
β€” Digestive enzyme production drops
β€” Gut motility slows or becomes erratic
β€” Blood flow to the digestive tract is reduced
β€” The gut lining becomes more permeable
β€” The microbiome shifts toward dysbiosis
β€” Inflammation increases

This is the missing piece I see in almost every complex gut case that isn't responding the way it should. The diet is good. The protocol is right. But the nervous system has never been addressed β€” and it is quietly undermining everything else.

The good news? You can change this. And it doesn't require another supplement.

Vagal toning practices β€” slow diaphragmatic breathing, humming, cold water to the face, gentle movement, time in nature, meaningful connection β€” directly stimulate the vagus nerve and shift your body out of survival mode and into the parasympathetic state where digestion and healing actually happen.

Your nervous system is not separate from your gut health. It is central to it.

If you've been treating your gut without addressing your stress and nervous system state β€” this is the conversation we need to have.

Something I want you to know before you book in with me.

I will never ask you to do something you're not ready for.

I know what it's like to sit across from a practitioner β€” or scroll through a program β€” and feel completely overwhelmed before you've even started. The supplement list is three pages long. The diet feels impossible. The lifestyle changes feel to overwhelming. And you quietly wonder whether you're even capable of doing this.

Every client I work with is different. Different health history, different life demands, different capacity for change. Some people come in ready to go all-in from day one β€” give me everything, let's get moving. Others need a slower, steadier pace where we build one layer at a time until it feels manageable.

Both are completely valid. Both get results.

What I won't do is hand you a generic protocol and expect you to figure out how to fit it into your life. That's not how I work.

Together we look at your schedule, your stress load, your family commitments, your budget, your cooking ability, your history with previous attempts at getting well β€” and we build something that actually fits. Something you can sustain. Something that doesn't require you to become a completely different person overnight just to follow it.

Because the best treatment plan in the world is useless if you can't realistically do it.

My job isn't just to know what your gut needs. It's to meet you where you are and walk alongside you at a pace that works β€” until you don't need me anymore.

That's the promise.

Most gut health programs tell you what to do.

The Gut Detective 4x4 Program finds out what's actually wrong first.

4 phases. 4 months. Real testing from day one.

Every client receives a SIBO breath test and a comprehensive microbiome analysis as part of the program β€” because you cannot build a treatment plan without knowing what you're treating.

Phase 1 β€” Investigation: I test. I interpret. I open the case file.
Phase 2 β€” Intervention: A targeted protocol built on your results. Not someone else's.
Phase 3 β€” Integration: Rebuilding your gut for long-term resilience.
Phase 4 β€” Independence: You leave knowing your gut inside out, with the knowledge of what you need to do to maintain a resilient gut.

If you've been managing symptoms without answers, this is the program for you.

Let's talk about one of the most important things your gut produces β€” and why most people have never heard of it.

Butyrate.
It's a short-chain fatty acid made by the beneficial bacteria in your colon when they ferment fibre. It is arguably one of the most protective compounds in your entire body.

Here's what butyrate does:

- It's the primary fuel source for your colon cells. Without it, those cells literally start to starve.

- It maintains and repairs your gut lining β€” keeping it tight, intact, and doing its job.

- It's one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory compounds your gut produces.

- It supports your brain via the gut-brain axis β€” low butyrate is linked to mood dysregulation, brain fog, and poor focus.

- It helps regulate blood sugar and insulin sensitivity.

- It keeps things moving β€” butyrate supports healthy gut motility.

So what happens when you don't have enough?

Low butyrate is associated with increased intestinal permeability (leaky gut), chronic gut inflammation, IBS, IBD, colorectal cancer risk, poor immune regulation, and even depression and anxiety.

It's not a small thing.

And the uncomfortable truth? Most people in the Western world are low in it β€” because we're not eating nearly enough of the fibre that feeds the bacteria that make it.

Two simple ways to support your butyrate levels:

1️⃣ Eat more resistant starch. Think cooked and cooled rice or potatoes, green bananas, rolled oats, and legumes. Resistant starch is gold for butyrate-producing bacteria.

2️⃣ Diversify your plant intake. Aim for 30 different plant foods per week β€” vegetables, fruits, legumes, wholegrains, nuts, seeds, herbs. Diversity in = diversity out. And a diverse microbiome produces far more butyrate.

Your gut is working hard to protect you. Feed it well.

If the supplements were working, you'd know by now.

I see it constantly. People with real, diagnosable gut conditions β€” SIBO, IMO, dysbiosis, histamine intolerance β€” throwing money at random probiotics, L-glutamine powders, and "gut health" lattes while their actual problem quietly gets worse in the background.

Here's the hard truth: you cannot fix what you haven't identified.

That bloat, that brain fog, that skin flare, that fatigue β€” it's not a magnesium deficiency. It's not "just stress." And it is absolutely not going to be solved by the supplement your favourite influencer is flogging this week.

The irony?

People skip testing to "save money."

Then spend 12–18 months buying the wrong things, feeling worse, and wondering why nothing works.

Testing isn't the expensive option. It's the only option that actually has a chance of working.

Know what you're treating
Treat it correctly
Stop funding guesswork

Test. Don't guess.

Let’s talk Menopause:

Menopause doesn't just give you hot flashes.

WHAT MENOPAUSE DOES TO YOUR GUT:
Menopause isn't just about your ovaries shutting down.
It's an hormone shift that affects EVERYTHINGβ€”including your gut.

Let me explain:
1. ESTROGEN DROPS = GUT MOTILITY SLOWS
Estrogen helps regulate gut motility (the speed at which food moves through your digestive system).

2. PROGESTERONE DROPS = INFLAMMATION INCREASES
Progesterone is anti-inflammatory.
When it drops, inflammation goes UP.

3. CORTISOL RISES = GUT-BRAIN AXIS DYSREGULATION
As your s*x hormones decline, your adrenal glands try to compensate by producing more cortisol.

4. WEIGHT GAIN (especially around the middle)
Menopause causes fat redistributionβ€”more around the belly.

And your doctor says "just eat less and exercise more."
Super helpful - NOT

THE GUT SYMPTOMS YOU'RE EXPERIENCING:
If you're in perimenopause or menopause, you might be dealing with:
- Constipation
- Severe bloating
- New food intolerances
- Reflux or indigestion
- Weight gain
- Diarrhea
- Brain fog

WHY HRT ALONE ISN'T ENOUGH:
Don't get me wrongβ€”HRT (hormone replacement therapy) can be LIFE-CHANGING for menopause symptoms - Hot flashes, mood swings, sleep issues

But HRT does NOT fix:
Existing gut dysbiosis
SIBO
Leaky gut
Poor digestive enzyme production
Microbiome damage from years of stress, antibiotics, poor diet

You can't hormone-replace your way out of gut dysfunction.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:

Get your hormones tested:
Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, thyroid (full panel)

Get your GUT tested:
Microbiome analysis (Microba)
SIBO breath test (if you have bloating/constipation)

Address BOTH

Go for a 20-minute walk.

No supplements. No restrictive eating. And Simple Just. Walk.

Here's why it works:

Stress β†’ gut chaos.
When you're in fight-or-flight, digestion shuts down. Motility slows. Your gut lining becomes more permeable. A walk activates your parasympathetic nervous system β€” your rest and digest mode β€” and tells your body it's safe to actually process food again.

Movement = gut motility.
Your colon responds to physical activity. Bloated, sluggish, constipated? Sitting still is making it worse. Walking literally gets things moving.

Nature exposure = microbiome diversity.
Research shows time outdoors β€” especially in green spaces β€” increases the diversity of your gut microbiome. And diversity is everything when it comes to gut health.

One walk. Three gut wins.

No excuses β€” your gut is literally waiting for you to get up.

01/06/2026

GLP-1s are everywhere right now. But before you start one, I want to ask you something.

Do you actually know WHY you're gaining weight?

Here are some of the real reasons people struggle with weight, that are usually not investigated β€” and a GLP-1 won't fix a single one of them:

Thyroid dysfunction
Your thyroid regulates metabolism. If it's sluggish β€” even subclinically β€” weight loss becomes a battle regardless of how little you eat. TSH won't tell you the full story. You will need to have tested free T3, free T4, reverse T3, and thyroid antibodies to get the full story.

Blood sugar dysregulation
Insulin resistance, cortisol-driven glucose spikes β€” these keep your body in fat-storage mode. Suppressing appetite doesn't fix the underlying metabolic issues.

Gut dysfunction
An imbalanced microbiome affects how you extract energy from food and how well you absorb nutrients. You can be eating less and still have a gut working against you.

Hormone imbalance
Estrogen dominance, low progesterone, high cortisol β€” these all contribute to weight gain, particularly around the middle. GLP-1s don't touch any of this.

Poor sleep and chronic stress
Cortisol and ghrelin don't care how motivated you are. If your nervous system is dysregulated, your body will hold onto weight as a protective mechanism.

GLP-1s suppress appetite. That's it. If the reason you're gaining weight is one of the above, you'll either not respond well, lose muscle instead of fat, or put it all back on when you stop.

Investigate all the other possibilites first. While it may not be an easy as the injections (depending on how much you like injections) finding the root cause will always give you the best outcomes - and without all the side effects.

Everyone's talking about Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro

But here's what nobody's telling you.

Your gut already makes GLP-1.

GLP-1 β€” glucagon-like peptide-1 β€” is a hormone your gut produces naturally. It regulates blood sugar, slows digestion, signals fullness to your brain, and helps protect your gut lining.

The problem?

Most people's microbiomes are producing almost none of it.

Here's what kills your natural GLP-1 production πŸ‘‡

- Ultra-processed food diet
- Antibiotic use (even years ago)
- Low fibre intake
- Chronic stress
- Gut dysbiosis β€” particularly low Lactobacillus and Akkermansia
- Alcohol
- High sugar intake

And the specific bacteria that produce or stimulate GLP-1?

⭐ Akkermansia muciniphila
⭐ Lactobacillus reuteri
⭐ Lactobacillus rhamnosus
⭐ Bifidobacterium longum
⭐ Faecalibacterium prausnitzii
⭐ Bacteroides spp.

These bacteria thrive on the foods most people aren't eating enough of β€” diverse vegetables, resistant starch, fermented foods, and prebiotic fibres.

Before you consider a pharmaceutical shortcut, ask yourself:
Is your microbiome even being given the chance to do its job?

A microbiome test can see if you have these bacteria and we know what to do to feed these precious bacteria to give you the natural sources of GLP-1.

A lot cheaper and you will benefit your overall health and longevity, without the potentially nasty sife effects.

Root cause. Not a workaround.
