Vietnam to Require Mandatory Health Declarations for International Travellers from July 1

Starting July 1, 2026, Vietnam will require all inbound, outbound, and transit travellers to submit health declarations under new regulations aimed at strengthening disease prevention and border health.

🩺 Key points travellers should know:

• Health declarations will be mandatory for travellers entering, leaving, or transiting through Vietnam when required by the Ministry of Health.

• Forms can be completed online or on paper and will be available in both Vietnamese and English.

• Travellers must submit their health declaration within 7 days before their trip.

• Depending on the disease situation, authorities may also request proof of vaccination or other preventive health documents. Take a copy of your Australian Immunisation Statement with you.

• Health quarantine officers will conduct health monitoring at border gates, including temperature screening and observation for signs of infectious diseases.

If a traveller is identified as a suspected infectious disease case, authorities may conduct additional inspections, including travel history reviews and health interviews.

The Ministry of Health will determine when health declarations are required based on global disease developments and the risk of transmission into Vietnam.

✈️ If you're planning to visit Vietnam after July 1, make sure to check the latest entry requirements before travelling.

A few questions on Hantavirus this week… 🐀

There have been no confirmed human cases of hantavirus infection recorded in Australia, making it the only inhabited continent without reported cases. While the virus has not been found in Australian humans, related antibodies have been detected in some wild rodents, suggesting it may exist at low levels.

Holidays should be about great memories—not preventable tragedies.

In some destinations, the risks of drink spiking and methanol-contaminated alcohol are real and rising. These can lead to serious illness, long-term damage, or even death.

Stay aware, stay safe:

• Watch your drink being made and never leave it unattended
• Avoid unbranded or very cheap alcohol
• Stick to reputable venues
• Look out for your friends—and trust your instincts

If something feels off, act quickly and seek help.

A little awareness can save a life. 🌍

🐮If you work around certain animals or animal materials, you could be at higher risk of contracting Q fever.

Q fever is an infectious disease spread from animals like cattle, sheep, goats, camels and kangaroos. The bacteria that causes Q fever can travel in dust and be carried long distances by the wind.

It can cause flu-like symptoms, such as fever, sweats and fatigue – and can knock you around for weeks or even months to years.

Cases have been on the rise. In 2025, Australia had 912 cases – that’s the highest number since we started monitoring Q fever in 1991.

Talk to your healthcare professional about vaccination. You’ll need testing to check your immunity first. The vaccine can’t be given to people who have already had Q fever or been vaccinated against it.

Stay safe when handling animals and animal materials:
🧴Wash your hands and arms after contact.
😷Wear a properly fitted P2 or N95 respirator and gloves.
👕Bag soiled clothing and boots before going home, and wash them separately.
🩹Keep wounds covered with a waterproof dressing.
👨‍🌾Follow all work, health and safety advice.

Wearing a P2 or N95 respirator when mowing or gardening in areas near these animals can also reduce your risk of infection.

And watch out for ticks, which can occasionally spread Q fever and other diseases.
