🌱 I recently had the privilege of supporting emerging artist Abi with her first market at Two Wells Community Garden!

😯 And wow the response from market goers of all ages was incredible - people were truly blown away by Abi's beautiful pieces, and even came back multiple times to admire and chat about her work.

🀭 The amount of times we were asked "who does the crochet & who does the painting" became a little inside giggle because the answer each time of course was "Abi does it all!"

🌹From tattoo designs, car/motorbike drawings, portraits (specialising in musicians - my gosh can you see her painting of Ozzy Osborne? 😱) to crochet flowers & pot plants, the diversity of her practice is PHENOMENONAL!

🐢 Abi was even generously offering quick pet portraits on the day using photos of visitor's pets. To see the joy on people's faces when they received Abis beautiful work after only 10-20 mins (while market multitasking) was so heart warming.

πŸ₯³ An exciting commission opportunity was offered to Abi as a result of her participation, and I'm SO excited to see what she creates next because I just know that she is already beginning to create positive ripples of colour & joy through the community.

🍎 I'll be sharing some of Abi's pieces for sale online over at Honeycomb Gallery Barossa soon, and be sure to support Abi's art practice by following her insta page !

This is the kind of work dreams are made of and I'm so grateful to be a part of it πŸ™

🎨 Even as an arts therapist I still find myself facing the inner critic... "it needs to look a certain way", "it's not good enough" etc. I'm definately not immune to or beyond these streams of thoughts, but they can become something powerful to reflect on metaphorically.

❣️ See the dark stem at the bottom of my drawing? It started out as a part that I didnt like visually as much as the rest. A mark that was made that didn't seem to flow, it seemed to go in a different direction and looked out of place. It felt uncomfortable.

πŸ–€ So I filled it all up with black to make it look more deliberate, to try to make it feel more like it could fit in. Then it seemed to look even more out of place and I felt like I'd made a mistake and messed it up.

I even played with cutting it out of the photo to just share the part that I liked from an "artist's lens" with you, but then I became aware of what was actually happening beneath the surface.

✨️ I took some time to reflect on the meanings that had emerged, and symbolic nature of what I'd created. So that's what I'm sharing here instead...

β€’ It was a catalyst for remembering.

β€’ The uncomfortable parts are important.

β€’ Awkwardness that feels like it stands out too much is valid.

β€’ Being different belongs.

β€’ Randomness is a gift that can often be overlooked or misunderstood.

β€’ Unexpected directions may form new opportunities.

🌱 That dark, thick stem right at the bottom could be the oldest, strongest & wisest part that is holding it all together, supporting the rest to grow and honestly if you look at the actual image of the plant, it's probably true. Maybe the younger stems are even aspiring to be strong and bold just like that stem...who knows!

🫢 Symbols can mean many different things for many different people, but to me this highlighted and reminded me again of integrity and the true power of creativity and being ourselves.

πŸ” There is always much to discover and work through during the process, and art isnt always about talent, making a pretty picture or learning special techniques.

😌 So this is the outcome of my little self-care walk that led to a therapeutic reminder of the importance of belonging, growth, individuality, validation and having the safety and courage to acknowledge the messy, awkward and uncomfortable parts at times.

🌈 Because with more of that what would we have? More connection and understanding of ourselves, each other and our truth. Our real selves - messy, random, awkward and all.

So I think I'll courageously add some colour next, because the beauty of diversity can be found everywhere in life everyday, and we don't have to feel like we should be prevented from experiencing it for the sake of fitting in.

✌️ With Peace & Creativity,

🌿 Tara Kate

🌿🎨 A way overdue wonder through art nature in the Adelaide Hills - checking out the "Ties" Exhibition at Fabrik Arts & Heritage, watching the bees & butterflies & at Karkoo & learning about the history of Onkaparinga Woollen Mill Museum Inc.

THEN visited an opshop in Gawler the next day and look what I found as soon as I walked in! 😍 definitely had to take that warm bundle of synchronicity home 🩡πŸ₯°πŸ©΅

⭐️ I'm still here!

I'll admit it's been a challenging couple of years, and it all may look a little different but I'm still creating & trying to be the truest version of myself as I can be πŸ’œ

πŸ’Œ Some things emerge in life that are out of our control. This can call for us to adapt or make changes and may challenge us to keep showing up at times. Sometimes others may not like or understand it, sometimes our people have our backs 100% unconditionally, and sometimes awesome new people can arrive through it all!

And I think that's part of the many layers & processes of re-aligning with ourselves - realising who our real people are and where our new pathways can lead us - while hopefully feeling supported to be who we truly are, whether through the messy or joyful stages. It can also open up possibilities in ways that we may have not thought possible before ✨️

This is what I continue to support people with 🌱

Creatively 🎨

Because being supported to create expressively & authentically can transfer into everyday life πŸ’“
