Due to scheduled maintenance by Powercor in our area, Ouyen Pharmacy will be temporarily closed today (Wednesday 17th June) from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM ❌

To ensure we can continue supporting our community's healthcare needs, we will be extending our trading hours today and will also be open tonight from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM ✅.

This evening, Pharmacist Alex A1 👨‍⚕️💊 was awarded the 2026 PSA Victorian Pharmacist Medal 👏🏆

The award recognises excellence in pharmacy practice and celebrates pharmacists making a difference at the grassroots level. It acknowledges the critical role pharmacists play as experts in medicines; wherever medicines are prescribed 💊, dispensed 📦, administered 💉, or reviewed 📋 … ensuring patients receive safe, effective, and high-quality care. 💜👨‍⚕️.

To be recognised by the Victorian branch of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia 🇦🇺💜, the peak body representing pharmacists across ALL areas of practice, is both humbling and deeply appreciated.

From a small rural pharmacy in Ouyen 🌾🏡 to a stage in Melbourne 🌃🏆, this recognition is proof that rural healthcare can lead the way. Being rural doesn’t hold us back… it challenges us to think bigger 💡, innovate more 🚀, and continue finding new ways to improve healthcare access and outcomes for our community 🚜🌾🐑💜.

While the medal may have one name on it, it reflects the support of an incredible team 👏, healthcare colleagues 🤝, family and friends 💜, and a community that continues to place its trust in us every day.

🙌 A Blast from the Past! 😯 📰

A little while ago, the wonderful team at the Ouyen District History & Genealogy Centre
dropped off some newspaper extracts from the North West Express dating back to April 1970. 💜

The articles celebrated the opening of the very building where Ouyen Pharmacy stands today! 🏛️ 👏

It’s fascinating to look back more than 50 years and see how much our community has changed… and how some things remain the same. The building has witnessed generations of locals walking through its doors, each with their own stories, memories, and connections to our town. 💜

Cheers to our building’s next chapter in this its future history. 😊

What a privilege it is to share that Ouyen Pharmacy has been named a Finalist in the Guild Of Australia - Victoria Branch National Pharmacy Awards 2027 for Victoria! 🎉👏

While we were honoured to be National Finalists back in 2023 🏆, so much has happened since then...

📦 A relocation
🩺 Three new consultation rooms.
👨‍⚕️👩🏼‍⚕️👩🏻‍⚕️ Growing from one pharmacist to a team of three pharmacists.
👥 Tripling the total number of staff employed in our business.
💉 Expanding accessible clinical services.
🐄 Becoming a local access point for Q Fever vaccination.
📚 Investing in higher education, with both Pharmacist Alex A1 👨‍⚕️ and Pharmacist Alex A2 👩🏼‍⚕️ currently undertaking studies in pharmacist prescribing training through Monash University

But more important than any building, award or qualification is our purpose 💜

One of the final pieces of our renovation puzzle has finally arrived… only about 8 months after it was paid for. 🤣

Apparently our signage decided to take the scenic route across the globe and Australia before finding its home in Ouyen. 🚚📍

The good news? 🫣😉

Our new category signage is now installed throughout the pharmacy, making it easier than ever to find what you’re looking for. 🛍️👀

✅ Better navigation
✅ Easier shopping
✅ Less wandering around pretending you’re browsing when you can’t find the vitamins 💊🌱 😜

Sometimes the best improvements take a little longer than expected… a lot longer in this case. 😅

But we think the end result looks fantastic, and we hope it makes your experience at Ouyen Pharmacy even better. 💜

Recently, Pharmacists Alex A1 and Alex A2 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️💊 brushed up on manually measuring blood pressure using a stethoscope 🩺 and blood pressure cuff.

It was fascinating listening to the sounds of the heart 💜 and using physics to measure blood pressure without relying on automated devices.

These days, monitoring your blood pressure and heart health can be easier than ever 💡

That’s why we’ve partnered with La Trobe University to support research 🔬 📚🤓 into new and more convenient ways for people - especially those in rural communities 🌾 🐑 to access heart health monitoring.
