It took me till I started studying naturopathy to learn that those little nags and “normal” discomforts are not normal and can be avoided AND prevented with a change in lifestyle and diet. I’d love to hear your thoughts - chime in below ⤵️ Over the past several years I’ve developed a habit of checking in with myself on a daily basis for what I need. This is a practise I had to develop because I had, for the majority of my life, ignored my needs and relied entirely on my intellect to decide for me. There’s a big difference between tuning in and listening to the subtle needs that our bodies can tell us. It’s a practise I’m so grateful for.

Lately I have been noticing that my energy is great, mostly fueled by good sleep and great food. However there’s a level of recovery that my body isn’t getting and I think that is because of my life demands: being a mum of four, attending births at a drop of a hat, and running a business. My nervous system tends to be on somewhat of a low burner at all times, meaning it’s hard to switch off completely. Lately I’ve been relying on herbs that help me do this at night, particularly passion flower, which is an amazing herb to tune out the everyday noise and get the proper recovery that I need from sleep.

I would love to hear what your body is telling you. Let’s start this conversation so we can validate this need within each other to tune in to the quiet voice within.

If you’re wondering what else you need to do to prepare for birth I would suggest you make time to connect deeper with yourself. Slow down. Do the opposite of what society expects of you - be selfish about this time you have left in your pregnancy - by tuning inwards to know yourself more deeply & intimately. How are you feeling about your health? About your body? tomorrow I take a group of women through 13 weeks of learning and integrating naturopathic knowledge and wisdom into their life so that they can feel better in their body and have a lifestyle that feels supportive. It's a process of learning in a feminine way where we are undoing and unlearning things that have been not working for them. This is about bringing back the wisdom into women's hands, wisdom back into the kitchen, to make them feel like the wise women that they are. The biggest part of this is that we're doing it together for 13 weeks so that it is time enough to sit with the changes and feel the things that are uncomfortable and tweak whatever needs to be tweaked to fit into their life and make it their own. Finding the wisdom and shaping it into their own.

I teach a full day workshop for women who want to dive deep into mental and emotional health - the deeper story that goes beneath regular birth education. Birth preparation is about so much more than learning the stages of labour or what to pack in your birth bag.

It’s also about getting to know yourself.

How do you respond when things feel intense, uncertain or out of your control?
What are the stories, fears, patterns or imprints you carry into birth?
How supported do you allow yourself to be?
Can you soften, surrender, trust… or do you tend to grip, push or override yourself?

Our emotional and mental landscape deeply shapes not only how we experience birth, but how we feel about ourselves through birth.

Because birth is not just physical.
It is hormonal, emotional, psychological and deeply relational.

This is why true birth preparation matters. Preparation that helps you understand your body, your nervous system, your conditioning and your unique way of moving through the world.

I believe in wholefoods all the way and as the saying goes (we all know this) we can’t give to others from an empty cup.

Especially in my work as a naturopath I have a deep commitment to practice what I preach. I know health isn’t always the easiest to prioritise but it is always worth the commitment.

So I consider not allowing myself to run on fumes my superpower #255 🤣 - and this is often fuelled by .nutrition because it’s so clean, nutritious, honest and yummy.

It fills the gaps that are inevitable when living a full life, like most of us are.

What you feel and think is absorbed into your nervous system. If there’s a constant negativity being fed into your subconscious it will “print out” as a stressed state. But you can turn this around.
