My first Bridge to Brisbane with my awesome team from Paddington Skin and Sante Medical!

I'm excited to share that I've recently completed my Diabetes Educator qualification and am now seeing patients for diabetes education appointments at Sante Medical.

Many people living with diabetes or prediabetes feel overwhelmed by all the information out there. My goal is to provide practical, personalised advice that helps you understand your condition and feel more confident managing it day-to-day.

I can now help with:
• Diabetes education for Type 1, Type 2 and gestational diabetes
• Prediabetes and diabetes prevention
• Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) placement and education
• Blood glucose monitoring
• Nutrition and lifestyle strategies to improve glucose control

As a dietitian, I've always been passionate about helping people improve their metabolic health through nutrition. Adding diabetes education means I can now offer even more comprehensive support to my patients.

If you think I could help you, or you know someone who would benefit from a little extra support, I'd love to see you in clinic.

Exercise is so important! It’s not just about weight - it’s about good health and longevity.

Australia's newly released 24-hour movement guidelines, suggest people do moderate- to vigorous-intensity exercise for 30 minutes or more most days and limit sedentary time.

Australian researchers found that middle-aged women who exercised regularly halved their risk of premature death. But most women aren't meeting physical activity guidelines.

Water before coffee. Most people who know me both personally and professionally will know that I love coffee - and would never expect my patients to give it up. However I’m also a big advocate for hydration! Many people find it hard to drink enough water, so I recommend trying to drink a big glass as soon as you get up, before any coffee. This can get you a quarter of the way to your 2 litres before you’ve started the day!

Are you okay? Make sure to check in on your family and friends today (and any day). Mental health is so important and not discussed often enough. Try to look after your own mental health and help others to look after theirs.

Jean Hailes for Women's Health week is always a good reminder for women to check in on their health. Juggling mum life and work means women often ignore signs and symptoms - this is your reminder to put yourself first and get any issues looked into!

It's day 3 of Jean Hailes for Women's Health week and the theme is - Pain to Power

1. Always advocate for yourself - if something doesn’t feel right trust your instincts, get a second or third opinion if needed. Ensure your age-appropriate health checks with your GP are up to date which can help flag issues before they become more serious.

2. There is no one-size-fits-all all approach to pain and everybody’s pain is different. Often trialling a mix of therapies helps, which may include medications, surgery, lifestyle changes, physiotherapy, acupuncture, relaxation/mindfulness and/or natural supplements.

3 .Don’t underestimate the importance of a positive mindset when dealing with any disease. Your mind and body are inextricably linked and it helps to focus on positive steps toward healing (although it’s fine to have bad moments/days/weeks - we’re only human!)

4. Set realistic goals - aim for improvements in pain and function, but don’t think about it as all or nothing and needing a 100% cure. It's about getting you feeling as good as you can and appreciating the little wins which all make up the big picture.

Remember the team at Sante Medical are here to help!

As a dietitian who works in this space I am so pleased to see Dietitians Australia advocating for our role. I have seen first hand the difference between people who use GLP-1s on their own versus those who use them with proper dietetic input and support.
