A free guide, for the woman who wants a vaginal birth after caesarean, or wants to want one, and is tired of being handed a statistic and a quiet push in one direction.

After a caesarean, some questions tend to stay. Was it really necessary. Could I have done anything differently. What will I do next time.

I wrote this for that woman. It doesn't tell you what to do. It shows you what the evidence actually says, where that evidence is thinner than it's made to sound, and the questions that keep you at the centre of your own care. Things like your real chance of a vaginal birth, uterine rupture in proportion rather than in fear, how to read a risk that's quoted at you, what genuinely helps, and how monitoring and consent really work.

It leans toward VBAC, because that's the path that asks more of you. More decisions, more preparation, more sifting through conflicting advice. But a planned repeat caesarean is a calm and good choice for many women, and if that's where you land, there's no judgement here.

It's free. Link in bio, or comment VBAC and I'll send it your way.

As usual - this is general information, not a replacement for your own clinical care.

Like everything in birth and motherhood, this is not new knowledge. Midwives learn from women, who learn from midwives, and they learn from the midwives and women who come before them.

I first heard this from Penny Simkin and if youre not familiar with her work then you’re in for a treat. Don’t worry that they are a bit dated, physiological birth still works the same.

It’s actually more miraculous that women can give birth where they feel scared, uncomfortable or even out of control.

The fact that birth keeps working so often even in the less than optimal conditions is a testament to the wonder of it all.

However, if you want to help yourself, and make it as easy as possible, please connect with these questions.

Really think about how you feel about giving birth and do you feel safe? If you don’t or you have reservations please consider what you can / what needs to change to help you feel you can let go completely. It is never too late.

I support women with complex birth planning and this is the foundation of all the decisions.

It can be helpful to find someone who is familiar with the pathway, so you can navigate the way thats right for you.

Reach out if you want more info about how I can support you with making a plan that works for you.

This tidbit seems to surprise people every time! How did your labour start? What was the pattern of rhythm throughout?

How did your labour start? What was the pattern of rhythm throughout?

Just wait. Oh I waited! I waited and waited and it is just as amazing as I always hoped it would be. Just wait.

Birth planning isn’t filling out a template.

It’s understanding what matters to you, how birth works, and how to navigate the system around you.

So you can make decisions that actually fit you.

This is what we do in a birth planning consultation.

So you wanna have a normal, physiological birth?

Get these three things sorted and your odds are way above average.
