💫With October being Mental Health Awareness Month, I wanted to share little reflection with you.
For me, mental health begins with Mental Balance. It begins with being able to come back to ourselves, especially when life feels overwhelming.
Life will always bring different situations and challenges..... Financial pressure, family, relationships, work, responsibilities, expectations, … and so much happening around us every day. We are constantly receiving and absorbing through... conversations, social media, the news, emotions, information, other people’s energy and our own experiences. And our mind takes it all in...Sometimes one thought leads to another, and another, until we find ourselves caught in a story that keeps looping over and over again. The thoughts keep racing, one after another.
From my own experience, there are times when it can almost feel as though thoughts or stories are being transmitted into our mind from somewhere outside of ourselves. When we keep following those thoughts, they can take us into a lower and heavier emotional space. We begin to doubt ourselves, fear, judge ourselves or others, worry, feel anxious, sad, frustrated or overwhelmed.
Through my own experience, I have learned how important it is to notice when this is happening. To stop for a moment and ask myself: Are my thoughts simply running by themselves? Am I feeling overwhelmed? Am I reacting from tiredness, exhaustion or self-disappointment? Am I carrying something that doesn’t actually belong to me?
The moment we become aware, something changes. We create a little space. And within that space, we have a choice....we can keep feeding the story, or we can pause, breathe and begin to change the story we are telling ourselves.
We don’t have to push those feelings away, but we also don’t have to stay stuck in them. We can acknowledge what we are feeling and gently look at the thoughts behind those feelings. Is this thought supporting me, or is it keeping me in the same heavy space? Sometimes, all it takes is a small shift in the way we think about something to begin changing the way we feel about it. A shift in our thoughts can create a shift in our emotions. A shift in our emotions can shift our energy. And when our energy shifts, sometimes our whole perspective shifts with it.
We may begin to see the situation differently. We may feel a little lighter. We may become more open to possibilities, choices or solutions that we couldn’t see when we were caught in the heaviness of the story.
This is where I find gratitude can be so powerful too. Even in difficult moments, finding something ... however small ... that we can be grateful for can gently shift our attention. It doesn’t mean ignoring what is difficult or pretending everything is okay. It simply gives the mind somewhere else to go. From fear towards possibility. From worry towards trust. From heaviness towards a little lighter.
For me, this is what mental balance is about. Coming back to our centre. Coming back to our zero point.
Because when the mind is balanced, we can see things differently. The situation may not have changed, but the way we see it can change. We may suddenly see possibilities, choices, or even a solution that we couldn’t see before. Sometimes the solution doesn’t come from thinking harder. Sometimes it comes when we stop, create some space and allow the mind to become quiet enough to see.
This is one of the reasons I love offering Sound Meditation sessions. They give us that little space to step away from everything for a while. We don’t have to work anything out. We don’t have to find an answer. We can simply breathe, listen and allow ourselves to come back to our own centre.
Our next Sound Meditation Journey is Friday 23 October, and our final Sound Journey for the year will be Friday 20 November. You can find and book ticket via link https://linktr.ee/sunsoundsilencewellness
Maybe you don’t need to change anything right now. Maybe you just need a little space to pause, breathe and come back to yourself.
Back to your centre. Back to your balance. Back to your zero point.
Thank you for taking the time to read my reflection. I hope it brings a little support, space and something meaningful to your own journey.
Perhaps I’ll see you soon.

A gentle reminder: Sound Journeys and other wellbeing practices can be supportive, but they are not a substitute for professional mental health care. If you’re struggling or feeling overwhelmed, please reach out to a qualified mental health professional or someone you trust. You don’t have to navigate it alone.
