Accredited volunteers, award winning, safe, fun, dementia friendly and without barriers.

A volunteer community group offering an enjoyable activity for seniors and people with disability by providing FREE rides on adaptive bikes in beautiful locations. Cycling Without Age is a not for profit charity which provides a community service by connecting those no longer able to ride for themselves with their community and the outdoors. We give free rides in comfort and safety on trishaw eBikes and bikes which carry non-motorised wheelchairs, piloted by volunteer cyclists. With value-based guiding principles of generosity, relationships, slowness, story telling and with dignity, all rides are FREE.

First ride with us? Here’s what happens. 🚲

1. Book online. Pick a day and a spot that suits you.
2. Meet your pilot. One of our friendly volunteers will be waiting with the trishaw at Paradise Point or The Spit.
3. Settle in. Our volunteers help you get comfortable and buckled in. There’s a blanket if it’s breezy, and a family member, friend or carer can sit right beside you.
4. Enjoy the ride. Around 30 to 45 minutes along the water, at a gentle pace, with plenty of time to chat (or just take in the view).
5. Head home with a smile. Most people ask when they can come back.

No cost, no rush, and no experience needed. Just bring your sunnies, because it’s already feeling like summer on the Gold Coast. 😎

We’ve given more than 25,000 free trishaw rides on the Gold Coast. Now we’re wondering how far the bikes could go.

We’re in the early planning stages of a regional tour to the Western Darling Downs, proposed for May 2027. A fortnight on the road, bringing free trishaw rides to seniors and people with disability in regional Queensland.

Along the way, we’d love to train local senior high school students to pilot the trishaws and take their own seniors and people with disability for rides.

It’s a big plan, and we can’t do it alone. We’re looking for partners: funding bodies and philanthropists, community organisations, politicians and community leaders, councils, and aged care and disability providers.

Cycling Without Age Gold Coast offers free trishaw rides for seniors and people with disabilities, and we’d love to take you out for a spin.

Our volunteer pilots are ready to roll from Paradise Point and The Spit/Main Beach, creating 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗷𝗼𝘆, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵‑a𝗶𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺. Whether it’s your first ride or your favourite weekly outing, you’re always welcome.

Our volunteer committee is looking for a Volunteer Secretary.

📋 About 3 to 4 hours a week
💻 Online committee meetings every 6 weeks

Our rides tackle social isolation, getting seniors and people with disability out into the fresh air and back among their community, free of charge. Keeping them free takes a well-run committee behind the scenes, and that’s where the secretary comes in.

You’d suit it if you’re organised, happy to work independently and care about what we do.

You won’t need to pedal. Your work just keeps the wheels turning for everyone who does.

Who would you book a ride for?

Maybe it’s your mum, who hasn’t been down to the water in a while. A neighbour who doesn’t get out much anymore. Your son or daughter, who would love the breeze and a pilot who chats the whole way round. Or a friend who just needs a slow morning by the water.

Our trishaw rides are free for older people and people with disability, and a carer, family member or friend can ride along beside them.

This week is National Carers Week.

It's a week for unpaid carers: the three million Australians who look after a partner, parent, child or friend, often for years, often without calling it "caring" at all. In Queensland, that's about 1 in 9 of us.

Look at who is sitting beside our guests in these photos. Some are family. Some are mates. Some are professional carers and support workers who have made the drive down to the Broadwater with a guest, yet again. On our rides, we're grateful to every one of them.

Carers hold a lot. Appointments, medications, the careful lift from the car, the worry that follows them home at night. And yet the person doing the caring is often the one nobody thinks to ask about.

On a ride, something shifts for a little while. Someone else does the pedalling. The breeze is the same for everyone on board, and the chat on the way back usually has nothing to do with care at all. We all need connection, the people who give care as much as the people who receive it.

To the unpaid carers this week belongs to: we see you. And to every professional carer who brings a guest to ride with us: thank you too. We hope you all head home a little lighter.

Today is World Mental Health Day, and this year's Australian theme is Together we Thrive. 💙

Look at these faces. Every one of our rides starts with a volunteer who turned up, put on a vest and gave a morning to someone else. It turns out that's good for everyone's wellbeing, on both sides of the pedals.
