The Royal Adelaide Show is a highlight on the calendar for many South Australians, and it’s no different at KDS! 🎡

This week, Joseph headed along as part of the Explore and Discover Club. He had a ball checking out one of his favourite cars, exploring the exhibits and doing a little taste testing along the way.

Explore and Discover Club is about planning days around what our participants genuinely enjoy, while creating opportunities to get out into the community and experience more of Adelaide.

A Bunnings adventure for Brenton and Joseph! 🌿🔨

This week, our Explore and Discover Club headed to Bunnings Warehouse Australia to see what they could find. The nursery was a favourite, with both Brenton and Joseph enjoying a look through the plants, pots and other gardening gear.

They also found some special gifts for Father’s Day before heading to Saravanaa Bhavan Adelaide for a delicious Indian lunch.

Look at Hannah go! 🛒

Hannah has been building her confidence using the self-checkout and is now even showing others how it’s done.

Our trips to Drakes Supermarkets are always an enjoyable part of Kangaroo Kitchen Club. From writing the shopping list and finding the ingredients to scanning and packing everything at the checkout, everyone has a chance to get involved.

We love seeing confidence and independence grow through these everyday moments. Thanks, as always, to the lovely team at Drakes for helping us find everything we need before we head back to the kitchen to cook! 👩‍🍳

It’s smiles like this that light up our day and make our work so worthwhile! 🍕💜

Yesterday, Sheebi and her fellow Kangaroo Cooking Club members made their own pizzas, choosing their favourite toppings and deciding exactly how they wanted to arrange them.

Sheebi was especially excited to add pineapple to hers, and judging by that smile, she was very proud of the finished result!

These moments are what the Kangaroo Cooking Club is all about. Giving participants the freedom to make their own choices while building confidence and practical cooking skills.

Well done, Sheebi. Your pizza looks delicious!

They don’t call it Taco Tuesday for nothing! 🌮

Our Tuesday cooking class was inspired by Mexican flavours, with the group making delicious tacos followed by a yummy caramel slice.

We also wanted to shine a special spotlight on Florian, who comes to every cooking session with a big smile, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.

It has been wonderful to watch Florian develop his cooking skills during his time with the Kangaroo Cooking Club. His infectious enthusiasm brings such a happy energy to the kitchen, and we love having him as part of our group.

There is always something new to explore on our Explore & Discover Days! 🔎

Each week, participants head out into the community for a day of activities, learning and plenty of fun together.

Recent outings have taken us everywhere from the Adelaide Central Market, Art Gallery and State Library to Adelaide Oval, the Birdwood Motor Museum, Gorge Wildlife Park, Adelaide Zoo and mini golf.

Every day is planned around participant interests, with opportunities to try new things, learn more about the world around us, build confidence and connect with others.

With small groups and familiar support workers by their side, participants can explore Adelaide at their own pace and enjoy each adventure together.

🛒 Most Kangaroo Kitchen adventures begin before we even reach the kitchen!

Once we have chosen our recipes, we work together to plan what we need, create a shopping list and head to our local Drakes Supermarkets .

Participants practise finding ingredients, working out quantities, checking items off the list and making decisions as a team. We also head through the checkout together, pack the bags and enjoy meeting people along the way.

These everyday experiences help build confidence, communication and practical skills, with plenty of fun and giggles included.

Winter is well and truly on the menu at Kangaroo Kitchen. ❄️🍽️

From homemade beef pies and cosy garlic bread to roast dinners with all the trimmings, our participants have been cooking up some incredible winter warmers.

Dessert is always a highlight. Love heart biscuits, profiteroles and cupcakes made with care have all been on the menu recently.

Good food always tastes better when it’s shared with friends. 💜

“This group gives me something to look forward to every Thursday.” – Stephen

Stephen has been part of our Thursday cooking group for quite some time, and it has been wonderful to watch his confidence and cooking skills continue to grow.

Around KDS, Stephen is known for two things. His impressive collection of themed shirts and his love of chopping garlic. Whether it's Halloween, Christmas, St Patrick’s Day or something in between, there is always a shirt that brings a smile to everyone’s face. As for the garlic, let’s just say he has earned the title of KDS’s official Garlic Chopping Extraordinaire!

More importantly, Stephen brings enthusiasm, humour and positivity to every session. The cooking group gives him something to look forward to each week, and we can honestly say we look forward to seeing him just as much.

Thanks for being such a valued part of the KDS community, Stephen. We’re glad Thursdays are on the calendar. 💚💜

Today’s menu was full of comfort food favourites with lasagna, chocolate pudding and a few pizzas thrown in for good measure 🍕🍫🍝

One of the highlights was seeing Sheebie confidently stepping up in the kitchen and even showing off some impressive hosting and presentation skills along the way.

Since joining the program, Sheebie’s confidence and cooking skills have grown so much, and it’s been wonderful watching that progress happen week by week.

At this rate, we might need to launch the KDS Cooking Show sometime in the future… 👩‍🍳🎬
