Jaw tension isn’t something most dancers are actively thinking about, but during busy periods, it may start to show up more than expected.

As training and performance load increase, your body adapts to meet demand, not just in the areas doing the visible work, but across the whole system.

Sometimes that may include the jaw.

For dancers, these subtle changes may influence posture, breathing, and overall movement control, especially when recovery doesn’t quite match the load.

This is something I really enjoy working through with dancers, understanding how their body is responding and helping them build the capacity to keep doing what they love.

Headaches that build through the day are often less about your head, and more about what your body has been holding onto.

Long periods at a desk, reduced movement, and low-level tension through the neck and jaw may all contribute to symptoms that gradually creep in. 󠀠

During busier periods, this may layer further, with less recovery, more bracing, and fewer opportunities for your system to switch off.

Simple changes in movement, awareness, and setup may help, but when symptoms persist or keep returning, it’s worth looking a little deeper.
