It’s Men’s Health Week and I’ve been doing the media rounds this morning talking all things men’s health.

Us blokes need to do better.

We’ll spend $500 fixing a strange noise in the car, but ignore a strange noise in our own body for six months.

If something’s changed, don’t put it off. Book the appointment with your GP, get the check-up, and put your health first.

New Zealand continues to set a strong example in advanced practice nursing, and we’re excited to welcome one of its leading voices as our National Nursing Forum international keynote speaker.

Dr Liz Manning is Health New Zealand’s National Workforce Lead – Nursing, Workforce Development and Planning, People and Culture, Health & Safety, with many years’ experience in professional advice and policy, including as Associate Director of Nursing, Waitemata District Health Board.

Her address, The control and positioning of nursing: Past, present and future, will be informed by her extensive experience in nursing leadership, workforce strategy, and health policy.

ACN is pleased to endorse the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care's revised Stroke Clinical Care Standard (2026).

The updated Standard strengthens the focus on timely rehabilitation, individualised care planning and follow-up after stroke. Importantly for our members, it recognises appropriately skilled nurses and stroke coordinators as integral members of the multidisciplinary stroke care team.

We thank the Commission for its extensive consultation and for incorporating feedback from ACN and our members throughout the review.

The Australian College of Nursing sends its deepest condolences to Professor Richard Scolyer AO’s family, friends, colleagues, and care team.

We have been moved and inspired by his work, and his approach to his treatment.

He generously shared his “uncertain path” with us all – updating the public on his progress, enriching our spirits with his positivity, bravery, and energy.

He leaves an incredible legacy that will have far-reaching effects for oncology care and research, not least through the Richard Scolyer Chair in Brain Cancer Research at the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse in Sydney.

Congratulations to the nurses and midwives recognised in this year's King's Birthday Honours.

These remarkable nurses and midwives include a remote nurse who has spent more than 30 years serving Aboriginal communities in the Kimberley, to a perinatal mental health midwife who has transformed care for thousands of women in South Australia, to a nurse who has dedicated over 60 years of service to her regional hospital.

Each of you has made a difference to people's lives and served your communities with distinction.

ACN is pleased to announce that one of Australia’s foremost First Nations health leaders, Adjunct Professor Janine Mohamed, will deliver the oration at the 2026 National Nursing Forum.

A proud Narrunga Kaurna woman, Janine has more than 30 years’ experience across nursing, management, research, and health policy. Janine has been a leading voice in advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, with senior roles across AHCSA, NACCHO, and as CEO of CATSINaM. She is now Deputy CEO of First Nations at the National Disability Insurance Agency.

“I want to achieve Indigenous health equity,” she’s said. “Equity being that we understand that people don't all start from the same place. And so we've got to meet people where they're at, and give people what they need, and we do that by listening deeply.”
We can’t wait to hear more.
