Sometimes I think we forget that our bodies don't actually live in the Pilates studio.

We spend an hour together, perhaps twice a week, but then you go home and live the rest of your life, you garden, sit at the kitchen table, maybe drive to Noosa, walk along the beach, carry the shopping.

Pretty sure you bend down to pick something up, you get out of bed in the morning., and you might spend time with your family.

All of those ordinary moments are where your movement practice really gets tested.

And that’s why I’m always interested in the practical side of Pilates. Not just, “Can you do the exercise?”

But, “What is this going to help you do in your life?”

Because if something we practise in the studio makes you feel more confident getting down on the floor at home, or stronger carrying something from the car, or more comfortable walking around Peregian Village, then it has done its job.

I love the studio, but the studio isn't the destination, It’s where we practise for life outside the four walls.

And that, really, is what Pilates Success has always been about for me.

After all these years, I’ve realised there’s something I want more for my clients than being able to perform a perfect Pilates exercise.

I want them to trust their bodies. That might sound simple, but I think it’s incredibly important.

When you trust your body, you move differently, you don’t panic every time something feels a little uncomfortable.

You don’t automatically assume that every ache means something is terribly wrong. you become curious.

You learn what feels good, what doesn't, when to challenge yourself and when to pull back.

And perhaps most importantly, you stop being afraid of movement.

I think that’s particularly important as we get older because there can be a lot of messaging around ageing that makes people fearful of their own bodies.

The voice in their head says " Be careful, don’t bend that way, you shouldn’t lift that, you’re getting older.

I’d rather help people understand their bodies than become frightened of them.

Of course, there are times when we need professional advice, modification or extra care, but knowledge gives you choices and confidence gives you freedom.

That’s what I hope people take away from their time at Pilates Success.

Not just stronger muscles but a little more trust in themselves.

Something I’ve noticed over the years is that the things we practise regularly eventually become the things our bodies know how to do.

That sounds obvious, but I don’t think we always appreciate how important it is.

If we spend years sitting, our bodies become very familiar with sitting. If we spend years avoiding getting down onto the floor, that movement becomes less familiar.

If we regularly challenge our coordination, strength and mobility, our bodies become more comfortable with those things too.

This is one of the reasons I’m such a believer in regular practice rather than the occasional big burst of exercise.

You don't need to smash yourself once a week and then do nothing for six days. Your body responds to what you repeatedly ask of it.

And I see this in my clients all the time, the movement that was awkward six months ago becomes automatic.

Something they once had to think about becomes something their body simply does.

That’s a lovely thing to watch, we’re not just exercising, we’re teaching the body what we want it to remember.

What an amazing weekend, and especially today. 💚 Celebrating the Wood element in our half-day Empowered Stillness women’s retreat.

Today we reflected on some of the beautiful concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine, new beginnings, taking bold action, and what we are ready to let go of that no longer serves us.

I feel so humbly blessed every time I run one of these retreats. There is something so special about bringing women together, creating a safe space to slow down, connect, share, and be vulnerable with one another.

I’m always in awe of the beautiful women who show up, open their hearts and share their stories.

It’s a reminder of how important it is to give ourselves permission to pause, reflect and reconnect with ourselves.

Today, I’m simply taking a moment to reflect and feel grateful for all the women who have been part of our retreats this year.

Our last retreat for 2026, and what a beautiful way to finish the year. 💚

Feeling very blessed and looking forward to what 2027 brings.

ALSO a super shout out to Gav, at The Captain's Daughter , who once again stepped up and allowed us to share their space for our brunch because of the rain.THANK YOU ❤️❤️

With love and happy chi Sandra ❤️❤️

A new week is about to begin at Pilates Success. If you’re looking at the timetable wondering where you might fit some movement into your week, remember that it doesn’t have to be complicated.

One Pilates class is better than none. One Yoga class might be exactly what your body needs. A Qigong session might give you the pause you didn’t realise you needed.

And if you’re already coming along each week, thank you for making movement part of your life.

I know there are a hundred other things competing for your attention.

Here’s what’s happening this week at Pilates Success — have a look at the graphic and see what fits.

I’ll see you in the studio, on the mat, or perhaps out in the park. 💙

After 13 years of teaching Pilates, I’ve become pretty good at spotting when someone is trying really hard.... And sometimes that’s exactly the problem.

You can see it in the clenched jaw, the shoulders creeping upwards, the breath disappearing and the determination written all over their face.

They’re trying so hard to get the exercise “right” that they’ve actually lost the movement.

I’ll often say, “Okay, let’s make it a little easier.” and occasionally I get that look that says, But I thought I was supposed to work harder!

Not necessarily, sometimes I want you to do less so that you can actually feel what you’re doing.

That’s one of the things I love about teaching small classes. I can watch those little details and know when someone is pushing themselves in a useful way and when they’re simply adding tension.

Good Pilates is a practice of learning, you don’t win a prize for making every exercise look difficult and sometimes the biggest breakthrough comes when you stop trying so hard and start paying attention.

That’s a lesson I think applies to quite a lot of things in life. love Sandra xx

Something I’ve learned from getting older, the older I get, the less interested I am in punishment as a form of exercise.

I used to think a good workout needed to leave you exhausted, now I’m much more interested in how I feel afterwards.

Do I feel stronger, do I feel like I’ve moved my whole body?

Do I have more energy rather than less, do I feel connected to myself?

Getting older has changed the way I teach because it has changed the way I experience my own body.

I understand much better now that recovery matters, mobility , strength and sleep matters.

And sometimes the smartest thing you can do is back off a little rather than constantly trying to prove how hard you can work.

I think there’s a lot of freedom in that, we don't have to exercise like we’re twenty.

We need to exercise for the body we have now and the life we want to keep living.

That’s a very different goal, and personally, I like it much better.

Balance is one of those things we tend not to think about until it starts to change.

Then suddenly you notice yourself reaching for the wall, you hesitate on uneven ground., you’re more careful stepping off the kerb, maybe you think twice about standing on one leg to put your pants on.

And these little things matter because balance isn’t just an exercise we practise in the studio. It’s something we use every single day.

That’s why I love incorporating balance work into Pilates classes.

Sometimes it’s obvious, Sometimes it’s hidden inside another exercise where you’re having to control your body while one part of you is moving.

And as we get older, maintaining that ability becomes increasingly important.

I don’t think we should wait until we have poor balance to start working on it.

It’s much like strength, we build it because we want to keep using our bodies confidently for many years to come.

So the next time you’re standing on one leg while putting your shoe on, perhaps notice how you’re doing and if you have to put your foot down, don’t worry.

That’s your body giving you something to work on.

☕ Preparing for my day with a coffee in hand…

It’s only Wednesday, and already this week I’ve worked with clients experiencing back pain, neck pain, hip pain and shoulder pain.

When you work with bodies every day, you’re constantly reminded that most people come with a history.

of sitting, working, lifting, old injuries, repetitive habits and the general wear and tear of life all leave their mark in different ways.

And this is one of the things I love about Pilates.

We’re not simply trying to fix the bit that hurts. We’re looking at how the whole body moves, how the joints work together, where mobility might be restricted, where strength needs building and how we can support the body to function as well as possible.

Because our joints need movement, our muscles need strength, and our bodies need a bit of both to keep us going.

After more than 13 years at Pilates Success, I still find it fascinating how individual every body is. What works for one person may need to be completely different for another, which is why I believe so strongly in personalised instruction and really paying attention to the person in front of me.

My job isn’t to make everyone do the same exercises. It’s to help each person find a way to move that works for their body.

Right, coffee nearly finished, time to get ready for another day in the studio!

Let’s see what today brings. 😊

⭐ Strong body. Strong mind. Calm spirit.
