Meet Russell Berrie Fellowship Cohort XV: Ashin Mandalarlankara (Myanmar)
Ashin Mandalarlankara is a Theravada Buddhist monk and peace activist, working on interfaith and intercultural dialogue in Myanmar and around the world. He has been a Buddhist monk for nearly three decades since he was the age of 10. He studied interfaith and interreligious dialogue at the Pontifical University of St Thomas, Rome in 2016. He is a proud KAICIID fellow; Fellow at A Common World Among the Youth (ACWAY) in Morocco 2015, Australia 2016, Sudan 2017, Azerbaijan 2019; SUSI Fellow, focusing on religious pluralism in the United States in 2018 and fellow at International Network of engaged Buddhists (INEB) 2022, Thailand. He received the Heroes of Dialogue Award from KAICIID Dialogue Center, Vienna, Austria in 2019.
“As a Buddhist Monk, I am so excited to learn interreligious Dialogue in the Christian community, Christian University, with Christian Scholars and students. It is a great privilege to be with them in person to understand more about different cultures and different faiths. Honestly I say, I have very limited knowledge on monotheism which is a profound religion therefore I am so happy to study interreligious subjects at the Angelicum University.”
