What's one healthy habit that's made a positive difference in your family's life? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”

For Sana Khan and her family, it started with learning more about nutrition, healthy meal planning and making the most of a food budget through Foodbank WA's nom! Children program.

By introducing regular family mealtimes, balanced meals and practical budgeting tips, Sana saw positive changes in her daughter's eating habits, her family's health and even their grocery bill. Most importantly, mealtimes became less stressful and more enjoyable for everyone.

Stories like Sana's highlight how nutrition education can help build confidence, create positive habits and support healthier futures for families. ๐Ÿ’œ

A big thank you to Hancock Iron Ore and Telethon7 Perth for supporting the nom! Children program and helping families access practical skills that can make a lasting difference.

What can happen when students are given the chance to learn about healthy eating in a fun, hands-on way? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”

Recently, Foodbank WA nom! Nutritionists travelled to Onslow, thanks to the support of Mineral Resources, to deliver six nom! nutrition education and cooking programs to 79 students from Years 1 to 10 at Onslow School. Joined by the Mineral Resources team, the week was filled with learning, cooking and plenty of enthusiasm. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

Through activities like the Eat Like a Rainbow Snake, the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating Race and Shopping on a Budget, students explored practical ways to make healthy food choices and build confidence around food.

Of course, no nom! program would be complete without cooking. Across the week, there was one clear favourite on the menu: our Legendary Lasagne. ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹

A huge thank you to Mineral Resources for funding six additional nom! Schools sessions in the Pilbara, helping us bring food education to regional Western Australian communities. ๐Ÿซฑ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿซฒ๐Ÿผ

What does it look like to keep showing up for community? ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

At the beginning of June, our nom! Children nutritionists returned to Newman, made possible by the support of Telethon7 Perth and Hancock Iron Ore. ๐Ÿซฑ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿซฒ๐Ÿผ

We delivered 4 sessions, connecting with 26 families from Newman and Jigalong communities. We visited community spaces where people already feel connected - Jigalong Youth Centre, Newman Kindilink, The Newman Community Centre and The Y Hub.

This was our third year visiting, and each visit strengthens the relationships weโ€™ve built. This time, we brought our new Good Mirrka recipe flip book, created alongside Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa and Martu people in the Pilbara.

During each session we talked about healthy eating and cooked meals from our recipe books that are tasty, easy and designed to be shared. Because when we cook together, we connect and thatโ€™s where real impact begins ๐Ÿ’œ

What does it take to help families eat well every day? ๐Ÿฅฆ๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿฅ‘๐Ÿฅ•

In May, Foodbank WA nutritionists delivered a series of nom! Children sessions across Hedland, Karratha and Roebourne, supporting local families with practical nutrition education and hands-on cooking.

So, what does that look like in practice? ๐Ÿค”

Itโ€™s parents learning how to introduce first foods for babies. Itโ€™s families cooking simple, healthy meals together and creating positive mealtimes that bring everyone to the table.

Across the week, we partnered with local organisations to share practical tips on feeding young children, eating well on a budget and making small changes that last. Families didnโ€™t just learn, they cooked, connected and shared meals in a welcoming space. From smart grocery choices to everyday cooking skills, these sessions are helping build confidence and lifelong healthy habits for families across the Pilbara.

Weโ€™re grateful to Hancock Iron Ore, Telethon7 Perth and our local partners for helping us support families to make healthy choices that last a lifetime ๐Ÿซฑ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿซฒ๐Ÿผ

During May, our nom! Schools nutritionists packed their bags and headed to Newman, with the support of Mineral Resources and PLS ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค—

Over four actionโ€‘packed days, our nom! nutritionists ran eight sessions and reached more than 140 students from Newman Primary School, Newman Senior High School and South Newman Primary School.

This visit was extra special as it marked our third year in a row at these schools. Weโ€™re so grateful for the strong relationships weโ€™ve built and the warm welcome we receive each time we return ๐Ÿ’œ

We also took our newest nom! recipe book on the road, trialling recipes from the new nom! #3 booklet. The verdict? Mexican Mac & Cheese and Breakfast Burritos were definite crowd favourites ๐ŸŒฎ๐Ÿง€

Another highlight was rolling out a brandโ€‘new food science lesson with Year 6 students, exploring how food changes when we cook it and sparking lots of curiosity along the way.

A huge thank you to Mineral Resources and PLS for helping make this visit possible, and to the schools and students for another memorable trip to Newman. ๐Ÿค—

Food is more than whatโ€™s on the plate; itโ€™s culture, connection and story. ๐Ÿ’œ

Our Foodbank Nutrition and Education team is proud to be working in close collaboration
with the Community and Population Health team at East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS), alongside the local Aboriginal community, to produce a healthy recipe booklet grounded in culture, community and connection.

Boodja to Bowl is a communityโ€‘led recipe booklet that celebrates culture, good food and the deep connections between Country, family and shared meals. Shaped by lived experience and knowledge passed down through generations, the booklet brings together recipes and stories that honour where food comes from and the role it plays in strengthening community.

This booklet is expected to be finalised early in the new financial year, bringing together months of collaboration, creativity and community leadership into a resource that truly reflects country, culture and community. Watch this space! ๐Ÿ‘€
