Picky eating isn’t always just picking eating 👀
When this 4-year old first came to us, they had been experiencing low energy, frequent illnesses, digestive symptoms, emotional deregulation and a very limited range of foods for around 12 months. Rather than simply adding more supplements or putting more pressure on food, we took a step back and asked: what could be driving these symptoms?
Through pathology testing, we identified nutrient deficiencies that needed addressing. From there, treatment focused on:
✨correcting key nutrient deficiencies with targeted support
🥣 using responsive feeding strategies to reduce pressure around meals
🌱 gradually expanding food variety through age-appropriate exposure
🦠 supporting gut health following frequent antibiotic use
🥝 prioritising nutrient-dense foods that still felt safe and achievable
The result? Improved iron, zinc and B12 levels, 5 new foods added, fewer digestive complaints, better emotional regulation and morning energy improving from 3-10 ➡️ 7/10, alongside improved recovery from common illnesses.
And importantly, mealtimes became less stressful for the whole family. 🤍
The takeaway: sometimes we need to look beyond the picky eating itself and investigate why a child may be struggling with food, energy, digestion or immunity in the first place.
Test, don’t guess - then create a plan that meets the child where they’re at.
