ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS DAY!

This week we celebrated Allied Health Professionals Day - the theme of which this year is “ Allied Health: For everyone, everywhere”

Allied health professionals represent the second-largest clinical workforce in Australia (after nursing and midwifery), with over 200,000 professionals!

These professions include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, dietetics, psychology, podiatry, social work and more!

At The Scar Clinic Perth we work with some incredible allied health professionals who deliver essential services to patients with wounds and scars and are proud to celebrate this with them!

SURGICAL SCAR REVISION

This image shows our 29 year old patient before, immediately pre-operatively with markings shown, 1 week and 6 weeks after a surgical scar revision to her upper lip hypertrophic scar, caused by a traumatic fall over 2 years ago.

This small, raised pale scar altered the profile of the upper lip and created a contour defect when at rest and in smile. The scarred upper lip mucosa was excised minimally and in line with her cupids bow to recreate the normal contour. The resultant scar is now flat and can be tattooed to restore the natural colour.

These photographs are of an actual patient treated at The Scar Clinic Perth by Dr. Helen Douglas whom has given her permission for use of these images for education and marketing.

LEG SURGICAL SCARRING

These images show our 63 year old patient before and 2 months after two laser treatments to the thick, tight and itchy surgical scar on his thigh.

The scar has flattened, which means it is less red as there is less blood-filled scar tissue, is less itchy and less tight.

The scar will continue to flatten and improve with further treatment.

Wound Awareness Week!

This week is wound awareness week - every year there are over 450,000 Australians living with a wound.

As Wounds Australia Ambassador Professor Fiona Wood reiterated, chronic wounds cause pain, scars, social isolation and impact work and activities of daily living.

They also cost health and aged care over $6.6billion a year.

Early intervention is key - so to be aware of the chronic wound warning signs watch out for:
pain and heat
odour
excess fluid
and slow healing

Chronic wounds also cause scars which affect people’s physical and mental health.

HAND TRAUMA SCARRING

These images show our 24 year old patient before and 2 months after a single laser and steroid treatment to his thick, itchy wrist trauma scar.

The scar which was previously 2cm thick, has significantly flattened with one treatment, is far less itchy and more normal in colour.

The scar will continue to flatten with further treatment.
