When can I expect to see results from my scar treatments?

If you have laser to your scar you will see results over several weeks:

If the scar has been itchy then most people report significant improvement in that itch by 2 weeks post-laser.

If you have a raised scars then most people report softening and flattening of that scar by 4-6 weeks post-laser.

If you have scar surgery then effects will be almost immediate - a tight scar will feel looser, an indented scar will be filled. However, it will of course leave a fresh scar, which will need time and scar therapy to settle.

EAR PIERCING KELOID SCARRING

These images show our 25 year old patient before and 3 months after a single laser and steroid treatment to her red, thick, itchy ear keloid.

The scar is now much flatter, less red and the shape and curve of the ear contour is restored and more natural as the bulkiness of the scar has shrunk.

She has decided to undergo further treatment to try to achieve complete flattening.

These photographs are of an actual patient treated at The Scar Clinic Perth by Dr. Helen Douglas who has given her permission for use of these images for education and marketing.

Due to AHPRA regulations, comments have been turned off as any positive comments could be interpreted as testimonials. Thanks for your understanding.

Q: Whats better for my scar? Laser or Surgery?

A: This depends on the type of scar, the anatomical location of the scar on your body and the time since the injury/surgery.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer for every scar, because all scars and the people who wear them are different.

Some scars are usually better treated with laser than surgery (e.g. thick, red, itchy scars)

Some scars are usually better treated with surgery than laser (deeply indented or tethered scars)

However, even within the same type of scar e.g. keloids - one on the earlobe may be best treated differently to one on the chest.

Your surgeon will go through the pros and cons of each treatment modality and combination with you to make a personalised treatment plan for you and your scar.
