Not Every Feeling You Carry Started With You

Sometimes you walk into a room and your energy changes.

You can be perfectly fine, then suddenly feel heavy, irritated, anxious or completely drained.

That doesn’t always mean something is wrong with you.

Sometimes you’re simply picking up what’s around you.

The more sensitive or intuitive you are, the easier it can be to absorb the mood, emotions and energy of other people without even realising it.

A simple practice:

Before automatically asking, “Why am I feeling like this?”

Ask yourself:

“Is this actually mine?”

Take a moment. Step away if you can. Breathe. Ground yourself. Give yourself some space before deciding that the feeling belongs to you.

Learning to recognise your own energy is one of the most useful parts of developing your intuition.

Trying to focus on everything at once can actually weaken your attention.

Your brain is constantly filtering information and deciding what deserves your focus. When too many things are competing for your attention, it becomes harder to concentrate clearly on any one of them.

That is why constant multitasking can leave you feeling mentally scattered, even when you have been busy all day.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is choose one task, remove the noise and give it your full attention.

Less switching. More focus.

Your brain is not meant to push at full focus for hours.

After around 45 minutes of sustained attention, it may need a short break and a shift in focus.

That wandering attention isn’t always a lack of discipline.

Sometimes your brain simply needs a reset.

A few minutes away can help you come back clearer, sharper and more focused.

Stop forcing it. Work with your brain instead.

I had a bit of a wake-up call today.

How much of our energy gets wasted on things we cannot control?

Doom scrolling.
Other people’s lives.
Drama.
Bad news.
Content that makes us angry.
Things that have absolutely nothing to do with where we’re trying to go.

And yet we keep feeding it.

Our attention is energy.

So I’m asking myself something different now:

Does this restore me?
Does this genuinely entertain me?
Does it teach me something?
Does it move my life forward?

If the answer is no, I don’t need to keep giving it my time.

Not everything deserves my attention.
Not everything deserves my energy.

Sometimes taking your power back is simply deciding what you are no longer willing to feed.

Your body can be stressed even when your mind says, “I’m fine.”

You can keep working.

Keep showing up.

Keep looking after everyone.

Keep getting things done.

And still be carrying far more internally than you realise.

Some people don’t recognise stress until it starts showing up as poor sleep, headaches, tension, exhaustion, irritability, digestive changes or feeling unable to properly relax.

We tend to think stress has to feel dramatic.

Often it doesn’t.

Sometimes it just feels like you’ve been running on empty for so long that you’ve forgotten what rested feels like.

Pay attention to the quieter signs too.

5 signs you might be carrying more stress than you realise

Stress doesn’t always look like panic or feeling completely overwhelmed.

Sometimes it looks like:

• Waking up tired even after sleeping
• Becoming irritated over things that normally wouldn’t bother you
• Feeling like you need to be constantly doing something
• Struggling to switch your mind off at night
• Feeling emotionally flat, disconnected or simply “over everything”

The body can get very good at continuing to function while you’re under pressure.

That doesn’t necessarily mean the pressure isn’t affecting you.

Sometimes the first step isn’t doing more.

It’s noticing what has become normal that probably shouldn’t be.

Which one do you notice most?

GROUP HYPNOTHERAPY FOR STRESS & ANXIETY | 29 AUGUST

Sometimes you can know you need to slow down, switch off or stop overthinking… but your mind just doesn’t seem to get the message.

Stress builds. Your thoughts keep running. You’re tired, but you can’t properly switch off.

That’s exactly what my 90-minute Group Hypnotherapy for Stress & Anxiety session is designed for.

I ran my first group session earlier this month, and before we began I asked everyone to rate their stress levels. We repeated the same exercise afterwards, and participants reported noticeable reductions in how stressed they felt following the hypnotherapy.

So I’m running it again.

Saturday 29 August 2026
3:00 pm – 4:30 pm
📍 Canning River Eco Education Centre, Wilson
$45 per person

During the session, I’ll guide you through hypnotherapy designed to help quiet the mental noise, reduce the intensity of stress and anxiety, and allow your mind and body an opportunity to properly switch off.

You don’t need to have experienced hypnotherapy before. You don’t need to be “good” at relaxing. You simply come in, get comfortable and allow yourself the time to stop carrying everything for a while.

Places are limited.
