Independence is not always about completing every task without assistance.

For some people, it means choosing their own routine. For others, it means participating in parts of an activity, developing skills over time or knowing that appropriate support is available when needed.

Everyday activities can provide meaningful opportunities to exercise choice and build confidence.

These can include:
• Planning and preparing a meal
• Choosing clothing and personal routines
• Taking part in household tasks
• Shopping for groceries
• Attending appointments
• Completing errands within the community

Good support should encourage participation without removing the person’s voice or control.

Looking for nursing care at home but unsure where to begin?

DVA Nursing and CHCS Community Nursing can both support people with clinical and personal care needs at home. However, eligibility, funding and access requirements may differ.

DVA Nursing is available to eligible veteran clients with an assessed clinical need. Support includes medication assistance, wound care, hygiene and personal care, chronic condition support and palliative care. Access generally requires a written referral from an authorised healthcare professional.

CHCS Community Nursing provides personalised nursing care delivered according to each individual’s needs. High Physical Support SDA is purpose-designed for eligible NDIS participants who require a high level of physical accessibility and very high levels of support. Individual property features may include accessible living spaces, assistive technology, ceiling-hoist provisions, home automation and backup power, depending on the home.
