~ MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT ~
This last year, the personal situation of our founder, Brie Moore, significantly changed and one of her 5 children was diagnosed with 3 brain tumours.
Unfortunately, as much as her passion to tell all women and men about PMDD has not changed, her ability to give the time, effort and her resources to continue on the work in building a grassroots organisation, has been impacted by the needs of her family.
~
We would like to see PMDA achieve what it set out to do—which is to become the support that patients across Australia desperately need to navigate and live with PMDD; building upon the work of the International Association of Premenstrual Disorders—iapmd.org.
Thus, we are presently looking for a new Board to replace our existing one.
If you feel you are the right fit & have the passion to build upon the base foundation of what our small but passionate board began, we would love to hear from you.
The new board will require 3 new directors to effectively lead the way in collaboration with IAPMD & evidence-based PMDD research, as it continues to emerge & develop.
PMDA was founded with the intention of building it into an organisation that specifically addresses the needs of PMDD patients—helping them navigate a pathway towards improved long-term quality-of-life outcomes and reduce the high risk of su***de this illness places upon the patient across their reproductive lifetime, including the impact it has upon their carers, partners, careers, children and family—educating and bringing further awareness to this overlooked and underdiagnosed condition.
It was a need for many of us who publicly advocated in the initial stages of finding others like ourselves with this disorder, a decade plus ago online. Through Facebook - we found each other through a closed group, that eventually led to this dream.
It was a dream to ensure something was built to give you all a localised resource under the leadership and affliation of the International Association of Premenstrual Disorders; but to ensure we built nationally based resources that was relevant to Australian patients and would eventually lead to reducing the agony it is to live with PMDD - merely to even know it exists; get a correct diagnosis and then find help - at home.
Thus, the time has now come to hand PMDA over as an organisation to the next generation of PMDD warriors who will fight to make Premenstrual Disorders Australia what it was always intended to become—the Australian resource that has long been needed for patients to know that they are not alone and can find up-to-date information that is clinically accurate and evidence-based here at home. And... keep telling everyone who will listen, we exist and we need help!
That said, we would like to extend an invitation to everyone out there who would like to take up the sword that must be held by a group of passionate advocates who believe that they are destined to take this beginning ee have created, and build upon it; to see it through to what was always the goal—saving lives, families and all those affected by this insidious disease that often stretches across a lifetime.
If this is something you are passionate about—if you have skills that can help build the dream to see Australian women’s & AFAB individuals’ lives changed & saved - until it one day becomes your time to hand the baton over to the next generation to build upon what I truly hope will become the combined work of many to see this mission through - we need to hear from you.
The roles do not need special qualifications; they need passion & drive & the ability to see the end goal; to build it much as you can & one day hand it over the next group who can take it to a new level again - to become what it must, for all.
Passion & determination & an ability to visualise the greatest ending. That is, building the gift you needed; one you may never open - but for someone else.
This gift - I promise you, will restore what PMDD has taken from you. It will mean your pain & suffering has meaning & none of it will be meaningless, or lost.
You will be part of building what YOU needed, so that another will be saved.
~
It has been my greatest honour to be the founder of PMDA & advocate for the PMDD community. I have witnessed years of hard-won advocacy begin to swiftly spread across social media & now into medicine—changing the outcomes of so many others who would never have known - had we not shared our lived experiences together in that initial facebook group, and finally bared all for the public to see.
And... they have seen themselves.
~
With that said, I extend my deepest gratitude to those who believed in the importance of this mission to establish PMDA in Australia & every single person who dedicated their time to get PMDA as far as we have.
We didn’t fail; we reached the end of the chapter we were to play in this book.
And the end goal—for others—must & will, continue.
And so, with bittersweet sadness, but equal pride & satisfaction that we began a story, it is now time for the next generation to build upon this beginning.
To my team—my board—the women I found myself amongst & every person who donated to see this dream begin: it has been my deepest honour to have you believe in the merit of the dream and the merit that our lives are worthy of saving.
~
Lastly.
To my dear friend, Sandi MacDonald of IAPMD without whom none of this—not even one of us across the world would have ever even learned, we were not broken.
That we were never who PMDD told us we were.
It is you that has saved us all.
History will remember the selfless legacy you have left each & every one of us.
History will be filled with your name in every book & I will forever wish I were as great a woman as you.
And so, as I now cross the finish line of my 30+ year marathon, it is my prayer that my ending - will not be the ending of this beginning for Australia.
Respectfully, as your sister in PMDD, I ask you please cheer for me & celebrate that I made it to the end but left everything I could for you, behind.
Much love,
Brie Moore
Founder of Premenstrual Disorders Australia
