A dementia diagnosis doesn’t mean there’s nothing we can do. 💙

There are still many ways we can support both the person living with dementia and their family.

We can support communication and confidence, help someone stay involved and connected, and continue building on their strengths.

And importantly, the right support can make everyday life easier for families too.

Understanding helps us recognise what may help and what we can do next.

You can have plenty of information about dementia and still be left wondering, “But what does this actually mean for us?” 💙

Information alone doesn’t always make the next step clearer.

Families often need help understanding what the information means in everyday life, what they can do, and which options may be helpful.

That’s why at Dementia ConnectEd®, understanding comes first.

Understanding can open the door to clearer options, better questions and more informed choices.

💬 What’s one question about dementia you wish someone would explain more clearly? Leave it in the comments.

After a dementia diagnosis, do families know who can help with what?

Navigating dementia support can be confusing, especially when families are trying to understand the different roles of healthcare professionals and support services.

As professionals, we can help families understand:

• Who may be able to help
• What each professional or service can offer
• When and why that support may be useful
• How to take the next step with greater confidence

A helpful referral isn't just about providing a name. It's about helping families understand how that professional or service may fit into their care.

For the professionals in my network:

What do you think would make navigating dementia support easier for families? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

I've also created Your Healthcare Team, a short video and downloadable guide to help families better understand the professionals and services available to them.

Did you know Cognitive Stimulation Therapy can be supported at home?

Cognitive Connections™ is an evidence-based, therapist-guided home program combining Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, neurorehabilitation principles and a relationship-centred approach to support thinking, language and quality of life after a dementia diagnosis.

Through carefully designed, adult-focused activities, your person is supported to share ideas, make choices, use language, problem-solve and contribute, drawing on their strengths, knowledge, opinions and life experience.

And families don’t need to plan or deliver a “therapy session”.

Everything you need is ready to go.

Put the kettle on, open the package, connect and enjoy meaningful time together.

Know someone who may benefit from Cognitive Connections™? Save this post or share it with them.

NDIS or Support at Home funding may be available for eligible participants, subject to individual funding and approval.

A simple system can make managing dementia care feel a little more organised. 💙

One practical strategy I recommend to families is creating a home medical file. A simple ring binder can keep medical letters, appointment details, test results, important information and questions together in one place.

Take it with you to appointments and add new information as it comes up.

It can make communication with health professionals easier and, importantly, reduce some of the mental load of trying to remember everything yourself.

Hi everyone, I’m a neuro physio and dementia consultant who is passionate about supporting people living with dementia and their care teams.

I’m offering a small number of dementia consultation visits for people and teams who would like support with:

• Understanding complex dementia-related care needs and changes in behaviour
• Finding ways to connect when communication or engagement is difficult
• Meaningful activities and cognitive stimulation suited to the person’s strengths and interests
• Mobility, transfers, positioning and comfort
• Practical guidance for support staff to feel more confident in their approach.

My role isn’t to replace your existing physio, OT or PBS practitioner. I work alongside them, families and support staff, bringing a dementia and neurorehabilitation perspective to assess the person’s needs, help everyone understand what may be happening and adapt their approach to everyday care.

📍 In-person visits within 20 km of 6156, with online support Australia-wide.

Eligible services may be billed under the NDIS or Support at Home physiotherapy item code, depending on the person’s plan and support provided.

Please message me if you’d like to discuss someone you support.

A dementia diagnosis can bring answers, but it can also leave you with so many new questions.

What is happening?
What might help?
Who can support us?
Where do we go from here?

People often wait a long time to receive a diagnosis, only to be left without clear guidance about what they can positively do next.

You don’t need to understand everything straight away.

The right information, explained simply, can help you make sense of what may be changing, support everyday life and relationships, and discover the therapy and support options that can help.

Understanding Dementia™ provides practical, therapist-guided education to help you feel clearer and more confident moving forward.

A dementia diagnosis doesn’t mean we stop looking at what is possible. 💙

There can be a lot of uncertainty about what comes next. But there are still meaningful ways to support someone living with dementia.

We can build on their strengths, support confidence and connection, and find ways to make everyday life work a little better.

Sometimes, it starts with changing the questions we ask.

Instead of only asking, “What is becoming harder?”, we can also ask:

✨ What is going well?

✨ Could I understand this better?

✨ What can I do to help?

Every person living with dementia is different, so the right support will look different too.

Families don’t always need more information. They need information that helps them understand what they can do, what may help and what support is available.

That’s why, at Dementia ConnectEd®, understanding comes first.

If you’d like to better understand dementia and explore practical ways to support someone you care about, visit the link in my bio or email [email protected].

💬 What is one thing that helps your loved one feel confident, connected or involved? I’d love to hear what works for your family.

What can we actually do to help someone living with dementia?

Today, I’m hosting my FREE 30-minute webinar, Dementia Explained Simply.

It’s a question many families ask after a dementia diagnosis.

You may be noticing changes in memory, communication or everyday activities and wondering how to offer support while still encouraging your loved one’s independence, choices and participation.

We’ll explore what may be changing, what can help in everyday life, and practical ways to support communication, confidence and connection.

You don’t need to have all the answers. Understanding is a good place to start. 💙
