Brightwater Care Group We provide not-for-profit home care, residential aged care, disability support and retirement living solutions to West Australians.

Brightwater is a not-for-profit organisation that supports people of all ages to live a better quality of life. Our services are extensive, from short and long-term residential accommodation and rehabilitation services, to assistance in the home and include specialist skills in supporting people living with Dementia, Acquired Brain Injury and Huntington’s Disease. The internationally-recognised Brightwater Research Centre enables the organisation to keep innovating, to trial and measure outcomes to ultimately to deliver new ways to enhance the lives of our residents and clients. Brightwater approaches care with a compassionate philosophy treating each client as a unique individual, and helping them to live the best life possible.

Ann has always been a force of nature.

A fiercely independent single mum who raised four daughters, Ann was a hairdresser by trade, a creative at heart, and the kind of woman who could turn her hand to just about anything.

Today, Ann lives at one of our aged care homes. Dementia may have changed parts of their lives, but it has not changed who Ann is, or the bond she shares with her daughter, Mel.

During National Carers Week, we are recognising the important role families continue to play in the lives of loved ones through advocacy, support and simply being there.

Mel reflects on role reversal, the art of letting go, and learning to treasure the little flashes of mum that still shine through.

Keeping up with the shopping, cleaning, gardening and caring for her husband was becoming too much for Brigitte to manage on her own.

Now, she says one of the most reassuring things is knowing someone is there when she needs them. As she puts it, "I knew if my balance really went and I tottered, she'd be right there to catch me."
