“Forgiveness does not mean forgetting the painful events, but refusing to let those events continue to hurt us.”

Today Is a Good Day of Life

“Human life is like a long road. Naturally, we all wish for this road to be smooth all the way. But in reality, everyone’s life path has stretches that are rough, full of potholes, winding and uneven. Yet this does not mean that the road is not worth walking, nor that it cannot be delightful.

Some days in our lives pass smoothly, while others are filled with problems pressing in on us. We cannot control life so that only good things happen. Difficult and painful events are sometimes unavoidable. Even so, their arrival does not mean our hearts must collapse or fall apart. All unpleasant things eventually come to an end. And while they have not yet passed, we can still live with them without suffering.

No two days are ever the same. Some are easy, some are troublesome. But we can make each day meaningful, valuable, and refreshing—not because good things happen to us every day, but because we know how to place our hearts rightly, and because we choose to do things of value for ourselves and for others. We cannot choose the events that enter our lives, but we can choose how we view them, and we can choose what we do with our lives. These two choices are what make today a good day of life.”
