Home stretch of my healing journey. In 2023, I rebranded as Health Before Hustle and went back to working with mothers, running my six-week program through local councils and I was teaching at Uni as a sessional academic. By that point, I’d already done a lot of healing. I genuinely thought I’d done the work.
Then in 2024, a call came from Singapore and with a major health crisis at home, and I had to fly back to Singapore to support my parents and siblings. I split my family in two, bringing my youngest with me.
For an about half a year, I actually lived back in my childhood home. And saw a therapist for the first time.
One thing I learnt: healing isn’t linear. It’s a spiral. Being back in that house, I felt myself slipping into old patterns I thought I’d already worked through and for a while it felt like I was regressing, falling backwards into who I used to be. But that’s not actually what was happening. I could still get triggered, but I had more tools now, more skill at noticing what was happening and finding my way back to a regulated state. You’re never actually back at square one, even when it feels exactly like you are.
Being in that space also helped me understand something else about myself and my roots. I had already been going through the process with my own kids, working out whether they needed a diagnosis for possible neurodivergence. Sitting in my childhood home, I started recognising things I read about. That deeper understanding of my own possible neurodiversity is where I actually found peace, and a real sense of groundedness in who I am.
Fast forward to today, I am more grounded and calm, inside and out, I still thank all the hard things for happening because it grows you. I embed all of these learnings into my active living program, and I take time to understand where women are in their life because what’s in your life affects how movement and exercise can fit into your life. And that is why my approach is different to other EPs. Science with a dash of woo. Thank you for following my story so far :)
