So much happens behind the scenes to get medical equipment from Australia to Tanzania. 🇦🇺🇹🇿

Every shipment starts with finding the right equipment, arranging collection, testing and servicing it to make sure it’s in working order, carefully logging everything, preparing the paperwork and then getting it safely packed and shipped.

A HUGE thank you to our incredible volunteer Logistics Coordinator, Glenn, who made this shipment happen.

A special thank you to:

🔬 Nathan from Mediquip for testing and servicing the operating microscopes.

🏥 Ivon from Getinge for testing and servicing the hospital beds.

📦 Alf for generously giving us precious warehouse space to store and prepare the equipment.

A container of medical equipment with a replacement value of USD $1 million is on its way to Tanzania. 🇹🇿

Among the equipment are three operating microscopes that will be a game changer for Tanzanian surgeons.

These microscopes make it possible to perform microsurgery and increasingly complex surgical procedures that would otherwise be extremely difficult, opening up new possibilities for patients and surgical teams across Tanzania.

The container also includes high-value operating tables and a range of other specialist medical equipment, all destined to strengthen surgical capacity and improve patient care.

Thank you to all those who helped us collect the items and to the teams at Perth Children's Hospital West Leederville Hospital and Fremantle Hospital. 🧡

Rafiki is proud to partner with Care for Africa to bring Rafiki wa Binti to Tarime.

This marks our very first Shared Giving Partnership, a collaboration between like-minded organisations working together to create greater impact.

By combining our efforts, we can support more girls with Binti Packs and menstrual health education, helping them manage their periods with dignity, stay in school, and reach their full potential.

Together, we’re proving that when organisations work together, we can change more lives.

More than just surgeries.

The Rafiki Australia Tanzania surgical camps are not only about transforming lives in the operating theatre, they are about building skills, sharing knowledge, and empowering the future of healthcare in Tanzania.

Every moment is hands-on. Every case is a learning opportunity. Not just lectures in a classroom, but real experience side by side, training, mentoring, and growing together.

Changing lives today while equipping the next generation of plastic and reconstructive surgeons for tomorrow.

Dr. Dorah Mtaita, is the first female trainee in Plastic Surgery at Muhimbili National Hospital and a recipient of the Rafiki Scholarship.
