❄️ Staying Consistent Through Winter
When the weather cools, your practice doesn’t need to be big, just honest.
A few mindful minutes, a gentle stretch, a moment to breathe.
Consistency in winter is really about staying connected to yourself, softly and steadily.
Show up in the way your body asks for today. That’s enough.

I’ve just landed back home after a few beautiful weeks in Japan, and I’m giving myself a slow, gentle re‑entry. There’s something about stepping away; different rhythms, different landscapes, different pace; that softens the edges and reminds you what your nervous system actually needs.

Travel always teaches me in quiet ways. This time it was the value of spacious mornings, unhurried movement, and letting myself be fully present without rushing to the next thing. I’m bringing that energy home with me.

I’m feeling grounded, recharged, and ready to ease back into teaching with a clearer mind and a softer body. I return after the public holiday on Tuesday, I hope to see you in the studio ✨

A Simple Sequence for Low Back Relief

Most low back tension comes from tight hips and a tired nervous system.
This short sequence helps both:

• Cat–Cow • Low Lunge • Half Split • Supine Twist • Knees to Chest

Move slowly, keep the breath soft, and avoid pushing into sensation. Relief comes from ease, not effort.

How Sound Supports the Overwhelmed Nervous System

Vibration travels through the body faster than touch. This is why sound healing can feel like a full‑body exhale. It bypasses the thinking mind and speaks directly to the body’s deeper layers of tension.
As the sound settles through the body, the nervous system begins to recognise safety again. Muscles release, breath deepens, and the mind becomes quieter without you having to try. This is why so many people describe sound healing as a reset, it creates the conditions for the body to return to balance.
This is the power of sound: it meets you where words can’t and helps your whole system remember how to rest.

If you’ve been feeling the pull toward sound healing, whether for your own practice or to weave into your yoga, meditation, or wellness offerings - my Sound Healing Level 1 Training is coming up soon.

This 3‑hour immersion is a gentle, hands‑on introduction to the art of sound. You’ll learn how to safely and ethically facilitate sound baths, work confidently with crystal and Tibetan bowls, and create a calm, supportive environment for your students or clients.

No musical background needed, just curiosity and care.

We’ll explore foundational playing techniques, trauma‑aware facilitation, space‑setting, contraindications, and how to structure a 30–60 minute sound immersion. You’ll also get plenty of practice time with the instruments and a take‑home manual to support you after the training.

If you’ve been wanting to step into this work, deepen your offerings, or simply understand sound healing on a more grounded, practical level, this is a beautiful place to begin.

Two Gentle Backbends for Posture

Backbends don’t need to be big to be effective. These two shapes strengthen the back body and open the chest, without crunching the lower back.

1. Sphinx Pose
A low effort way to wake up the upper back and counter long hours of sitting.

2. Supported Bridge
Opens the front body while giving the spine a chance to decompress. Use a block under the sacrum for a more restorative version.

Think of these as “front body openers” rather than dramatic backbends.
Small, steady work creates real change.

Our new Sunday Sound Healing sessions begin soon, with the first one happening on 14 June at 4pm.

If your weeks have been feeling full, rushed, or a little frayed at the edges, this is your invitation to end your weekend in the softest way possible. These monthly Sunday sessions are designed to help you unwind the week from your body; slow breath, deep rest, and the calming resonance of the crystal bowls.

Nothing to do. Nowhere to be. Just a quiet hour to settle your nervous system before Monday arrives.

If you’ve been craving a weekly rhythm that feels grounding and spacious, this might be the perfect place to land.

Sunday Sound Healing
4pm • Café Mojo Community Centre
First session: 14 June

Booking essential, numbers limited. Book through link in bio or my website - https://www.angelablackwellness.com/pages/offerings/sound-healing

🕉Sound‑Based Grounding Practice
When the world feels loud or your thoughts start to spiral, sound can become a doorway back to presence.

Try this simple sequence:

Listen for the furthest sound you can hear.
Maybe it’s a bird, a car in the distance, or the hum of life beyond your immediate space.
Let your awareness stretch outward.

Then listen for the closest sound.
The rustle of clothing, the breath of someone nearby, the soft creak of the floor.
Let your attention come closer.

Finally, listen for the sound of your own breath.
Notice its rhythm, its texture, its quiet steadiness.
You don’t need to change it, just notice.

This gentle progression helps the nervous system shift out of threat mode and back into safety.
It’s simple, but incredibly effective, a way of reminding the body that it’s here, now, and that the world is still moving around you.

You can use this practice anywhere: I use before teaching, between clients, in the car, or when you wake at night.
It’s a small act of presence that can change the tone of your whole day.

Three Poses for Tight Shoulders

Most shoulder tension isn’t just “tight muscles”, it’s your nervous system holding on. Here are three gentle shapes that help the upper body soften without forcing anything:

1. Thread the Needle
Creates space between the shoulder blades and encourages the upper back to release.

2. Cactus Arms (supine or standing)
Opens the chest and front shoulders, especially if you spend a lot of time rounding forward.

3. Puppy Pose
A supported way to lengthen the arms and soften the upper back without dropping into the lower spine.

Move slowly. Stay curious. Let the shoulders melt rather than stretch.
