Hope For Hamish

Hope For Hamish Hamish's journey of receiving oral immunotherapy in Atlanta, USA to protect his future health from anaphylaxis. We have started this page for 2 reasons.

We are taking back power, being proactive and not settling for just food avoidance because there has to be more than this. Firstly to assist us with our fundraising efforts to take Hamish to Atlanta, USA for oral immunotherapy (OIT) for his anaphylaxis and also to document this major journey in our lives and secondly to try and help provide some education and awareness of anaphylaxis and allergie

s and just how severe they are and how much they can impact your daily life. Very frequently allergies are downplayed or overlooked, you can be made to feel as an inconvenience in places like restaurants or travelling. People have even been refused on planes due to allergies. As parents all we want is for our children to be happy and healthy, and we will literally move mountains for them, so please like and share and support us on this journey xx

Last night after 23 months since starting OIT, Hamish reached half of his OIT goal. His goal was to eat pizza at Pizza Express in London. We unfortunately are not in London at the minute but we did make him a pizza! The first time of having pizza with no vegan cheese! Hamish loved it! Georgie our puppy was also keen to try some but he just had to watch! We substituted Hamish's milk dose for the pizza and he ate half of it! So excited to reach this stage and still can't believe that we are even here! Looking forward to introducing Hamish to new pizza flavours other than chicken and cheese. I wonder if he will like the controversial pineapple on his pizza! As always, I will be forever indebted to Dr Agrawal for his expertise with OIT. Without it, we would still be on strict avoidance of dairy.

So very excited to finally get my hands on this today!!! Hopefully having to use adrenaline is in the past for us, but we still always have to carry it. This is a gamechanger, a nasal spray instead of using the Epipen which is a needle. Hopefully this will give not only Hamish the confidence to self administer if he has to, but anyone else who may be caring for him, such as his teachers at school. I really think using a nasal spray instead of a needle will result in faster administration, instead of trying to make a decision or watch and wait scenarios. Taking away the fear of it for Hamish, will take away hesitancy and fast administration is the key. Delays cost lives.

I asked for a prescription for this at his recent immunology appointment and was told I would have to wait months for it as there was no stock, the next day I checked with our local chemist and they ordered it straight in. Thank you to my amazing nurse prescribing friend who sorted us with a script. Yet another let down from immunology here!!!!!

And on another note, Hamish has just had his bloods done and his ige levels have more than halved from last year. They are the lowest they have ever been. This has been a very good week for Hamish. He is currently on 65mls milk daily as maintenance and he is enjoying a mini dairy milk egg every day as a little treat. I wish I had filmed the moment he had his first taste of "real" chocolate. His face lit up and he said "this tastes amazing!". He wants to try m&ms next.

His goal is to eat pizza at Pizza Express next time we are in the UK.
