For Women’s Health Week, an important area of focus is the growing understanding of women’s vascular health and the need to recognise s*x-specific differences in vascular disease.
Research has identified differences in how vascular disease can present, be recognised and managed in women, as well as disparities across screening, diagnosis, treatment and clinical outcomes.
Historically, women have also been underrepresented in vascular research, limiting our understanding of s*x-specific differences in disease, treatment effectiveness and outcomes.
Progress is being made. Greater attention is being placed on the inclusion of women in clinical research, the analysis of outcomes by s*x, and more tailored approaches to screening and diagnosis. These changes are helping build the evidence needed to support earlier recognition and more informed vascular care for women.
Women’s Health Week is an opportunity to continue these conversations, improve awareness and recognise the importance of research that better reflects women with vascular disease.
