Recently I had an appointment at the Medicare Midland Mental Health Centre.
On the way there, I was thinking about how normal it is for us to look after our physical health.
We go to the gym.
We see the physio.
We get our injuries checked.
We even post selfies heading to the gym or after a workout, which I’m all for.
Yet there can still be a stigma around seeking support for our mental health.
Health is health.
As someone who works in the mental health space, I also believe in using the supports that are available when I need them.
One of the things I really like about this service is how accessible it is.
Attendees at MHFA course I deliver may think I’m getting commission for here but I think it’s great
It’s available at no cost, often with low wait times, no referral required, and some centers operating 365 days of the year with extended hours.
We’d never think twice about seeing someone for a sore back or a broken bone.
Seeking support for stress, anxiety, grief, overwhelm, or simply wanting to talk to someone should be no different.
So today, instead of a gym selfie, here’s a selfie outside a mental health service.
Because looking after your mental health deserves to be just as normal. 👍
