Supplements can be an amazing addition to your health and wellness routine - but there's a dark side to the industry we need to be aware of.

A lot of it is unregulated, and the marketing is usually crafty enough that you'd never know what's actually in the bottle. Here's some things to keep an eye out for before spending your money:

πŸ’Š TGA approval covers safety, not whether a product actually works. That "AUST L" number means the ingredients are permitted and the claims are self-assessed by the brand β€” not tested for results.

πŸ’Š A "proprietary blend" with one total weight hides the individual doses. Often the active you're paying for is underdosed and cheap filler makes up the bulk.

πŸ’Š "Naturally sweetened" still isn't always gut-friendly. Sugar alcohols like sorbitol and xylitol can cause bloating and gas, and there's growing evidence sweeteners like sucralose can disrupt the gut microbiome.

πŸ’Š The form matters as much as the nutrient. A few worth knowing β€” folate over folic acid, methylcobalamin over cyanocobalamin, magnesium glycinate or citrate over oxide, vitamin D3 over D2.

πŸ’Š A rough guide to effective doses: magnesium 300mg+, vitamin D 1000–2000 IU, omega-3 aiming for 1000mg+ combined EPA and DHA (not just the capsule weight), curcumin 500–1000mg, creatine 5g, probiotics in the billions of CFU.

πŸ’Š And the single most useful check β€” look at the amount per serving, then how many capsules a serving actually is. A big front-of-label number spread across four capsules isn't what it looks like.

None of this is to scare you off supplements. It's to help you ask better questions, and spend on the things actually worth it

Do you notice your mood dips after a few days of eating lots of processed foods? That's not a coincidence - your gut and brain talk to each other constantly.

Most of your body's serotonin, our happiness hormone, is made in the gut, and the bacteria living in there help regulate stress hormones, energy and how clearly you think. So when your gut is struggling to process food (making it feel sluggish, bloated, irritated) our mind often feels it too.

Practical nutrition is one of the foundations we work from at Clear Water.
We keep an ongoing conversation across appointments about
what you’ve been eating, why it might and might not be working for your body and where small shifts could help.

In our clinic, every colonic session is tailored to the individual. What we
focus on, and how we work, adjusts based on how your body and mind is responding - so the support you get is always specific to where you're at.

Be kind to your gut, more whole foods, fewer ultra-processed ones, help it support your mind and mood 😌

Thank you to my clients. You are all my teachers 🩡

The lessons I've learned from you over the years have shaped this work - and me along with it. What we learn in our sessions and conversations expands far wider than just gut health.

Every one of you inspires me. The showing up, the coming back, the willingness to sit with whatever surfaces - you should all be so proud of that ✨

A slower Sunday evening can be the perfect opportunity to regulate ourselves before a new week πŸŒ€

The way you spend the few hours before bed can help set the tone your nervous system carries into Monday - and the rest of the week to follow.

Five things to try tonight:
β†’ eat dinner earlier, eat it slowly
β†’ dim the lights after dark
β†’ a gentle belly massage
β†’ brain dump whatever's looping in your head
β†’ slow exhales lying in bed (longer out than in)

We see lots of clients arriving before the session with nervous systems that haven't had a real pause in months. Sunday can be your small, doable reset - no big overhaul or "optimised" routine required.

Save this for tonight πŸŒ™

There's a reason slow-cooked meals feel so cosy and comforting in winter - they ask very little of your digestion πŸ–πŸ πŸ«œ

When meat is cooked low and slow for hours, the proteins soften and the connective tissue melts into the broth, releasing collagen, gelatin and minerals in a form your body can absorb up easily. Root vegetables bring grounding fibre and warmth. The herbs do delicious work in the background - easing digestion and lifting flavour.

Bone broth base is what lifts this from comforting to genuinely restorative - a good quality store-bought one does a great job. Our favourites are Gevity and Best Of The Bone

Save this for a slow rainy Sunday dinner - the leftovers are even better the next day

I graduated from therapy.

Years of sitting in the room and unpacking, unlearning, growing, changing & choosing differently. It has taken a lot of work but I have been able to build my life to be one I want to live

These are the lessons I'm carrying out with me:
- My life is my choice. Every day I choose how I show up, what I eat, what outlook I carry. I am in control of my thoughts, not the other way round.
- I am my biggest investment.
- I speak to myself like she's a little me.
- My darkest days were drops in the ocean. They built who I am β€” I choose not to let them define me.
- Consistency is key. Key. Key.

If you're in the thick of it right now, trust me, it's going to get better. The work is worth it, trust yourself and remember you are worth it 🀍

One of the most common things we hear in session: I know I should be doing more - I just don't k
That's not laziness. That's overwhelm. And it's exactly what we help untangle.
Part of what happens in every session at Clear Water is working out which area of your health is worth focusing on first - and how to make that first change easy enough to actually stick. Because trying to overhaul everything at once is how nothing changes.

We work across five foundations: food, exercise, sleep, stress and emotional wellbeing, and fun and joy.

πŸ₯¦ Food - one better choice a day adds up faster than you think
🚢 Exercise - it doesn't have to be a production
😴 Sleep - nervous system first, everything else second
🌬️ Stress - awareness before action
🌻 Fun & joy - yes, this one counts as health too

Not sure where your starting point is? That's the conversation we have with every client. Book in through our link in bio and we’ll help you figure it out.

Nobody becomes well by overhauling everything at once 🩡

People who actually feel better long-term usually choose one or two things gtom each pillar and made them easy enough to stick to. Then slowly, without forcing it, the rest are a lot easier to change.

We can help you understand and get clear on the five pillars - food, exercise, sleep, stress and emotional wellbeing, and fun and joy. You don't need to master all five simultaneously, but because when you understand the whole picture, you can find the thread that's easiest to pull.

Ask yourself: which two feel most doable right now? Start there. That's genuinely enough.

πŸ₯¦ Food - one better choice a day adds up faster than you think
🚢 Exercise - movement doesn't have to be a production
😴 Sleep - nervous system first, everything else second
🌬️ Stress - awareness before action

Your body has been listening the whole time

Every conversation you didn't speak your truth. Every frustration you had to squash. The grief you didn't let yourself feel because it wasn't a convenient time. The intellectual mind moves on... But the body keeps a quieter record. In the jaw, the breath, the shoulders, the gut.

The work we do at Clear Water isn't about solving everything. But we can to help give your body somewhere to put it all down. For many people β€” particularly through chronic stress, or seasons of carrying a lot, healing our gut can be a meaningful part of the release and restoration of those systems where release happens.

Come see us at the clinic and we can help you find a path through πŸ’™
