If you are currently in the thick of feeding stress- measuring every millilitre, timing every suckle, and worrying about weight gain - let this be your permission slip to pause and breathe.
Real, functional change at the breast or bottle doesn’t come from forcing feeds or getting stuck in a cycle of stress. It comes with comfort, safety, and predictability.
Here are my key reflections from the Infant Oral Function and Feeding Masterclass I recently attended with Dr Justin and Kate Roche from National Tongue Tie Centre
☀️ Physical tension masks function: In-utero positioning or birth strain have an impact. Unwinding bodywork helps differentiate structural restriction from muscular compensation.
☀️Co-regulation over clock-watching: A calm, supported parent creates a safe environment for baby to relax their jaw and tongue.
☀️Bodywork creates the foundation: Whether preparing for a tongue-tie release or recovering after one, pre- and post-bodywork builds the body awareness baby needs to learn new motor patterns.
