It goes like this…
You decide you want to improve your gut health and someone recommends eating more fermented products like sauerkraut!
So you head to your local big-chain supermarket and go straight to the canned good aisle and grab yourself a jar.
You eat it. Your gut health doesn’t improve. You give up.
But what if we told you, the reason you’re not seeing the results from your sauerkraut because it lacks all the benefits of fresh, live kraut? Let’s unpack this…
❌ Live kraut needs refrigeration to keep its good bacteria active, if it’s sitting on a shelf instead of in the fridge, that’s a sign it’s been pasteurised, and the fermentation process has been stopped.
❌ A heat-treated seal usually means the product’s been pasteurised after fermenting, which extends the shelf life…but it also kills off the good bacteria.
❌Traditional kraut (like 66 Barrels and Tender Lovin’ Kraut ferments naturally, producing live bacteria over time. But vinegar-made “kraut” is pickled, not fermented, skipping that process entirely. No fermentation = no live cultures….so it’s just cabbage soaked in acid 🤷🏼♀️
Don’t worry though, the fix is easy! Make sure you buy your kraut and fermented products fresh from the fridge. Or better yet, fresh from Nourish your gut, fuel your life. 😉
