Have you ever noticed your digestion feels a little different as the seasons change?

This is something many people experience, and there are a few reasons why it can happen.

As the weather cools down, we often see changes in:

• eating patterns and food choices
• daily routine and activity levels
• hydration (people tend to drink less water)
• stress levels and workload
• exposure to different foods and environments

All of these factors can influence how your digestive system feels and functions.

Some people may notice changes such as bloating, irregularity, or simply feeling “heavier” after meals during seasonal transitions.

This doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong, it’s often the body responding to changes in routine and environment.

Supporting digestion can sometimes be as simple as returning to basics: regular meals, adequate hydration, movement, and mindful food choices.

When people think about bone health, calcium is often the first thing that comes to mind, but it’s only one piece of a much bigger picture.

Healthy bones rely on a combination of factors working together over time.

These may include:

• Vitamin D – supports calcium absorption
• Protein – provides the building blocks for bone structure
• Magnesium & other minerals – involved in bone formation and balance
• Movement – especially resistance and weight-bearing exercise
• Hormonal health – particularly important through menopause and ageing
• Lifestyle factors – such as sleep, nutrition and overall health status

Bone health is not built from one nutrient alone, it’s influenced by consistent support across many areas of the body.

If you’re thinking about bone health, it can be helpful to look at the bigger picture rather than focusing on just one supplement or nutrient

New research from Perth: Can reducing plastic exposure make a difference?

A recent study published in Nature Medicine explored how reducing everyday plastic use may influence exposure to certain chemicals commonly found in packaging and household products.

Researchers followed participants here in Perth and found that making small changes around food storage and packaging was associated with measurable reductions in some plastic-related chemicals in the body.

While avoiding plastics completely isn’t always realistic, the research highlights how small, practical changes may help reduce exposure over time.

Some simple swaps to consider:

• using glass or stainless steel containers where possible
• avoiding heating food in plastic containers
• choosing fresh or less packaged foods when practical
• carrying a reusable water bottle

It doesn’t have to be all or nothing, small habits can add up over time

Stress doesn’t always feel obvious. It can build gradually and show up in ways that are easy to dismiss as “just life being busy.”

Some common signs people may notice include:

• feeling more tired than usual, even after rest
• changes in sleep (trouble falling or staying asleep)
• increased irritability or feeling more emotionally sensitive
• digestive changes such as bloating or discomfort
• tension in the jaw, neck or shoulders
• feeling mentally foggy or overwhelmed more easily
• changes in appetite or cravings

If you’re noticing a few of these together, it can be helpful to pause and look at what might be contributing, whether that’s workload, lifestyle, sleep, or other ongoing pressures.

Taking notice of these changes early can help you better support your overall wellbeing.

Why do we feel more tired when the weather cools?

As the seasons change and the weather cools down, it’s common to notice shifts in energy levels, motivation and routine.

There are a few reasons this can happen. During colder months, people often experience:

• less daylight exposure
• changes in sleep patterns
• reduced movement and activity
• busier schedules and increased stress
• shifts in eating habits and hydration

Our bodies are constantly responding to changes in environment and routine, which can sometimes leave us feeling slower or more fatigued than usual.

While occasional tiredness can be a normal part of seasonal transition, ongoing fatigue may be worth paying attention to, especially if it’s affecting day-to-day wellbeing.

Sometimes the most supportive thing we can do is return to basics: prioritising sleep, regular meals, movement, hydration and moments of rest where possible.

We recently asked our team a just-for-fun question:

If you could only choose one food to eat on a desert island, what would it be?

Our naturopath Bec didn’t hesitate: avocados 🥑

And honestly, it makes sense.

Avocados contain healthy fats, fibre, potassium and important nutrients that can help support energy, skin, digestion and overall wellbeing.

Of course, we wouldn’t recommend living on avocados alone, but they are a beautiful, nourishing addition to a balanced diet.

A lot of us in the clinic love adding avocado to our salads. How would you eat yours?
