🔥 Understanding Agni — The Ayurvedic Digestive Fire 🔥
Ayurvedic Practitioners Karin and Roberta love discussing the concept of Agni (digestive fire) — one of the foundations of health in Ayurveda.
During an Ayurvedic consultation, we assess many aspects of your wellbeing, including:
✨ How is your digestion?
✨ Are you constantly hungry?
✨ Do you often feel overly full after eating?
✨ Is your appetite irregular?
For good health, Ayurveda teaches that we need a balanced and well-functioning Agni to support digestion, absorption, and assimilation of nutrients.
In your Ayurvedic consultation, we explore your Agni through an in-depth discussion, along with traditional assessments such as tongue observation 👅 and pulse evaluation. Many people are amazed by the insights these traditional methods can provide.
📚 A little addition for Ayurveda students and classical Ayurveda lovers:
According to the Sushruta Samhita, Pachakagni (the digestive and metabolic fire) is described in four states:
1️⃣ Samagni — balanced Agni
The ideal physiological state, where Vata, Pitta, and Kapha are in harmony. Digestion functions smoothly.
2️⃣ Vishamagni — irregular Agni (associated with Vata)
Digestive strength may fluctuate. A person may experience bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, heaviness, or abdominal discomfort.
3️⃣ Tikshagni — intense Agni (associated with Pitta)
A strong digestive fire that may digest food very quickly and can be associated with burning sensations, sour belching, heat sensations, or diarrhoea.
4️⃣ Mandagni — weak Agni (associated with Kapha)
Digestion becomes slow. Symptoms may include heaviness, nausea, fatigue after meals, and difficulty digesting even small amounts of food.
When Agni becomes imbalanced:
❌ Mandagni → incomplete digestion (Apaka)
❌ Tikshagni → excessive digestion/over-processing (Dagdhapaka)
❌ Vishamagni → inconsistent digestion (Pakwa-Apakwa)
Ayurveda describes these imbalances as contributing to the accumulation of Ama (undigested metabolic residue).
🔥 Understanding your Agni is a powerful step toward understanding your health.

❄️ Winter Solstice Blessings ❄️

Yesterday marked the Winter Solstice here in Perth 🇦🇺 — the shortest day and longest night of the year 🌚, welcoming the beginning of the winter season.

In Ayurveda, winter invites us to turn inward — to slow down, rest, nourish, and reconnect with ourselves.

As the season changes, we can bring more warmth, grounding and mindfulness into our daily routines:

📔 Create space for reflection
Winter is a beautiful time for meditation, journaling, gratitude and noticing where change may be needed.

☕️ Invite warmth into your life
Balance the coolness of the season with warming spices, nourishing meals, herbal teas, golden milk and cosy rituals.
🛁 Try a warm oil massage or a relaxing bath to nurture the body and mind.

🧶 Embrace creativity & stillness
Put down the phone 📱 and reconnect with creative practices like drawing, writing, knitting or other mindful activities.

🧘🏻‍♀️ Move with intention
Winter can naturally bring feelings of heaviness or low energy, so balance rest with gentle movement. Begin your morning with some rounds of Surya Namaskaram to awaken the body and mind.

This season is an opportunity to care for ourselves, nurture our relationships and honour the slower rhythms of nature 🤍

Our practitioners are available to support you with personalised Ayurvedic guidance around your winter routine, diet and lifestyle.

Ayurvedic Daily Routine

If you’ve drifted away from your daily routine lately, consider this your sign to gently return….🥰

If you’ve lost your routine or are finding it difficult to commit, start with just three from the list and increase fortnightly. Remember, it takes time to build routine!

Your routine will be tailored to your unique individual needs during a consultation, but these five practices are the perfect foundation:
1. Tongue scraping – first thing in the morning.
2. Oil pulling – followed by Lakshmi’s tooth powder.
3. Dry body brushing.
4. Jala Neti or Nasya.
5. Abhyanga (self-massage).

Our team is always here to support you. To receive tailored advice unique to your body, book a session with one of our Ayurvedic practitioners via the link in our bio.

We wish you a beautiful weekend 🪷

Winter Reset starts with self care 🪷

Winter invites us to slow down and listen.

Sometimes what we need is rest.
Sometimes we need nourishment.
And sometimes our body is asking us to pay attention.

If you’ve been experiencing persistent fatigue, digestive discomfort, poor sleep, stress, recurring congestion, hormonal changes, aches and pains, or simply feeling unlike yourself, it may be time to look beyond the symptoms and explore what is asking to be restored.

At Lakshmi Ayurveda, treatments are a beautiful part of your journey to warmth, immunity and deep restoration.

Many of our therapies are for you to feel the best possible Slef in your body, some others are prescribed following an Ayurvedic consultation, allowing us to understand your unique constitution, current imbalances and the root causes of what you’re experiencing. From there, we can create a personalised treatment plan designed specifically for you.

Whether you’re seeking deep relaxation, seasonal support, or guidance through a more complex and ongoing health challenge, we’re here to meet you where you are.

🌿 Begin with a treatment
🌿 Begin with a consultation
🌿 Begin with a conversation

Your path to wellbeing starts with care and understanding!
