IS IT HORMONES....? OR GUT MICROBIOME...? OR STRESS?
When new symptoms show up, the first thing most people do is check in with Dr Google. Sometimes this IS helpful, but more often than not it leads to a confusing “wild goose chase”.
We see many people who've taken the initiative and researched and tried a few things but when nothing seems to work, its our experienced naturopaths that help them get to the bottom of things and begin to address the real problem.
Whether it’s feeling more fatigued, noticing skin issues, mood swings, or persistent bloating, these are all signs your body is asking for support. The tricky part is that the same symptoms can be linked to different systems in the body:
hormones, gut/immune health, or even stress in the nervous system.
Here are 4 COMMON ISSUES we see at PNMC, and the signposts that can help you tell them apart:
SKIN ISSUES
✨ Signs it might be Hormones: Chin/jawline breakouts, pigmentation changes, oily/dry skin that fluctuates with your cycle.
✨ Signs it might be Gut/Immune system: Eczema, hives, rosacea, or rashes that flare after certain foods or allergens.
✨ Signs it might be the Nervous system: Redness, itching or flare-ups that worsen during stressful periods.
FATIGUE
✨ Signs it might be Hormones: Ongoing tiredness paired with weight changes, hair loss, or feeling cold may signal thyroid issues. Energy dips before your period, or worsening fatigue with irregular cycles, may suggest perimenopause or adrenal hormone shifts.
✨ Signs it might be Gut/Immune system: Fatigue combined with gut pain, low iron/B12, or frequent illness can point to malabsorption, inflammation, or autoimmune conditions.
✨ Signs it might be Nervous system: “Tired but wired,” relying on coffee to get through the day, or waking up unrefreshed despite 8 hours of sleep are classic signs of stress on the nervous system.
MOOD CHANGES
✨ Signs it might be Hormones: PMS irritability, perimenopause anxiety, or mood shifts linked to thyroid.
✨ Signs it might be Gut/Immune system: Low mood, brain fog or irritability that worsens with digestive upset or certain foods.
✨ Signs it might be Nervous system: Heightened stress response, reactivity, or difficulty calming down.
BLOATING & DIGESTIVE UPSET
✨ Signs it might be Hormones: Bloating that worsens before your period.
✨ Signs it might be Gut/Immune system: Daily bloating, gas, food intolerances, or IBS-type symptoms.
✨ Signs it might be Nervous system: “Nervous stomach,” urgency, or unpredictable gut changes during stressful days.
