Why Music Matters for Mental Health & Memory! 🎡🎹

Perhaps one of the most profound benefits of music therapy for seniors is its impact on memory. A favourite song can unlock vivid recollections, encourage conversation, and help people reconnect with personal stories, even for those living with dementia.

Engaging with music also stimulates the brain, improving focus and attention. For seniors who enjoy learning, joining a choir or picking up an easy instrument can bring both mental stimulation and confidence. And it is never too late to start. Even small gestures, like clapping to the beat or humming along, provide meaningful benefits for memory and mood.

It is common for seniors to experience periods of stress, anxiety, or loneliness. Music can also calm the mind and lift the mood; that is one of the greatest benefits for seniors. The melody may be relaxing or upbeat and may bring joy or energy to your day.

Listening to calming music in the evening is another way to prepare for better rest. For those who feel unsettled or disconnected, music provides reassurance and comfort without the need for complicated routines.

We love our furry companions with paws, a true best friend to have beside you! πŸΎπŸ‚πŸ

Our lovely client, her doggie pooch and her regular caregiver taking advantage of the Autumn weather. A beautiful way to keeping connected within the community with a nice meal at a cafe and hot cuppa.

Sophie was the first Key Player brought on board back in 2021 in the first year of business.

Sophie comes from a sales background, focusing on account management and new business development. After taking an unexpectedly long maternity leave due to COVID, Sophie decided she wanted to change direction and focus on a career with more meaning.

She relates all too well to the challenges of aging at home. During her childhood, she grew up observing her dedicated single mother look after herself, her sister and also her grandmother, who had multiple sclerosis.

"We were a female-strong household! It wasn't until I became an adult and a mother myself that I fully realised the workload and responsibility my mother held. I keep this in the front of my mind when I'm working. I believe it's what helps me professionally and personally"

Happy 5 years Sophie ❀

Palliative Care at Home! 🏠

It’s important to remember that palliative care is not the same as end-of-life care. An individual can receive palliative care in the home or a care unit at any stage during their terminal illness or life-limiting condition, including while they are receiving treatment. In fact, palliative care in the home can be provided for many years.

What is Palliative Care?
Palliative care is specialised support for those diagnosed with a terminal illness or serious progressive condition such as cancer, end-stage organ disease, motor neurone disease or dementia.

Individuals can receive palliative care in the home or a care unit at a hospital or hospice, with the aim of improving quality of life by relieving pain and addressing their emotional, social and spiritual needs.

Palliative care is not just for the dying. It is highly beneficial to receive it early during a terminal illness, rather than just at the very end of life.

In fact, palliative care should be provided to anyone with a terminal illness or life-limiting condition who needs support to manage their symptoms such as pain, shortness of breath and nausea.

For further information and advice about palliative care, it is best to speak to a GP, or an expert at https://palliativecare.org.au/ or https://www.advancecareplanning.org.au/
