No, eating too little doesn’t “ruin” your metabolism. But it can work against it.

A lot of people are already under eating, thinking it will help, and still feeling stuck.

When you consistently eat too little, your body adapts. It can slow your metabolism slightly, increase hunger, and make progress harder to maintain. That’s often where the frustration comes from.

This is well understood in metabolic health, and it’s why “just eat less” isn’t the answer.

At CMS, we take a doctor led, evidence-based approach to understand how your body is actually responding. In some cases, the next step isn’t eating less, it’s adjusting things properly so your body can move again.

From there, you may be supported by our in house dietitian to guide you through what that looks like in a practical, sustainable way.

👉Did you know you can pre-purchase a package of 5 Body Composition Analysis scans for $150?

This is a great option for clients who want to track their progress over time, gaining a clearer understanding of changes in fat mass, muscle mass, and overall body composition.

Rather than relying on the number on the scale alone, regular assessments allow for a more informed and structured approach to your health journey.

Weight loss plateaus are common, and often misunderstood.

From a clinical perspective, they can occur as the body adapts to changes in energy intake. This may involve a slowing of metabolism and, in some cases, a reduction in muscle mass, both of which can make further progress more difficult.

This isn’t a reflection of effort, but rather how the body works to maintain balance.

Understanding these adaptations is key to developing a more effective, sustainable approach.

If you are concerned about your metabolic health, we’d love to meet with you to support you in your journey.

Not all weight loss is the same.

When weight is lost without the right approach, a portion of that loss can come from muscle rather than fat. This can impact metabolic rate, reduce strength, and make long-term weight management more difficult.

In contrast, focusing on fat loss while preserving muscle is associated with improved metabolic health, better blood sugar control, and reduced cardiovascular risk.

So how do we determine what’s actually changing?

At CMS, we use medical-grade body composition analysis to assess fat mass, muscle mass, and overall body composition, allowing us to guide a more informed and personalised approach to your care.

Did you know your liver is closely connected to your metabolic health, influencing how your body regulates energy, stores fat, and manages cholesterol?

The challenge is that early changes in liver health often go unnoticed, with little to no obvious symptoms. Over time, this can impact overall health and make weight management more complex.

At CMS, we take a detailed approach to assessment, which may include a FibroScan, a quick, non-invasive way to evaluate liver fat and stiffness and gain deeper insight into your health.

The scan is similar to an ultrasound, and results are available on the spot to help guide your care.

Understanding what’s happening beneath the surface allows for a more informed and personalised approach to care.

For years, weight loss advice has centred around “eat less and exercise more”.

While this may work for some, many people struggle to see lasting results.

👉Why is this? Because weight regulation is influenced by more than just behaviour, it’s closely linked to your metabolism.

Your body is designed to adapt. When energy intake drops, metabolic changes can occur that increase hunger and make it harder to maintain progress over time.

That’s why a more informed, clinical approach is often needed.

Dr Mark Mellor shares his perspective in this short video.

Quick fixes can seem appealing, especially when results are promised quickly.

We’ve seen them all - the 200 calorie shake diets, meal replacement bars, all very low calorie and putting your body into starvation mode.

From a clinical perspective, these crash diets often fall short because they don’t address the underlying drivers of health, including metabolic function, appetite regulation, body composition, and behavioural factors.

This is where many people find themselves in a cycle of short-term results followed by frustration.

At CMS, our approach is very different. We focus on comprehensive assessment and personalised care, using clinical insights to guide long-term, sustainable health outcomes.

This may include evaluating metabolic markers, body composition, cardiovascular risk, and where appropriate, further investigations to better understand your overall health.

A more informed approach, coupled with expert nutritional advice to nourish and fuel your body, leads to more meaningful results over time that last.
