Make it clear: PWdWA and the disability community will strongly oppose the Australian Government's proposed NDIS changes at the upcoming Rally Against the NDIS Cuts this Saturday, 9 May.
Our CEO Kat Johns is calling on the disability community and its supporters to come along and oppose the cuts.
"We encourage everyone who opposes cuts and changes to the NDIS to support our national campaign against the cuts," Kat says.
"Come along to the protest rally, bring a sign and some attitude, and raise your voice loud against changes to our NDIS."
The demands we have for the Australian Labor Party – and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Disability and NDIS Minister Mark Butler MP and joint NDIS Minister Jenny McAllister – are vital:
1. – honour our social contract for the NDIS National Disability Insurance Scheme. Give us the support you promised.
2. – don't boot people off without a real and equal support system in place. Ensure we have certainty and good ongoing support.
3. – legally guarantee people won't be worse off under any new arrangements. Enshrine our rights, like the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities does.
4. – keep people's ability to choose their providers and caregivers. We want to choose who we have around us and who supports us.
5. – support our right to work, and protect the employment of people who work for us. We need good jobs where we're accommodated, and so do our support workers.
To join us, Senator Jordon Steele-John, Youth Disability Advocacy Network - YDAN, The Australian Greens and our allies, come along to the Boorloo-Perth rally at Northbridge Piazza at 1pm this Saturday.
"We're looking forward to joining the disability community at our collective rally as we protest against the government's attempts to abandon us and our NDIS," Kat says.
The piazza is an accessible outdoor venue with nearby accessible parking, toilet facilities and public transport, including free CAT buses in vicinity of the piazza.
The venue is on the corner of Lake and James Streets, near San Churro and Geisha Bar.
