"I thought that was just... me." 😅

Ever wondered why you struggle with balance, posture, coordination, staying focused or feel like your body is working harder than it should?
Sometimes there can be more to the story than simply "that's just how I am".

🧠Retained neonatal reflexes are early movement patterns that are important for babies, but are designed to integrate as the nervous system develops. When some of these reflexes remain active, they may influence posture, coordination, balance, focus, or how the body responds to movement and stress.

And yes... sometimes we can carry these patterns well beyond childhood without even realising it!

That doesn't mean every wobble, distraction or awkward movement is a retained reflex - but understanding how your nervous system is functioning can help uncover another piece of the puzzle.

At Soul Aura Chiropractic, we assess the bigger picture and look at how your brain and body are communicating.
Because sometimes it really isn't just "me being me."

😴If sleep is when your body heals... why do so many people wake up still feeling exhausted?

Sleep isn't just about closing your eyes. It's when your brain sorts through the day, your body repairs itself, and your nervous system resets for tomorrow.

But if your nervous system is stuck in "go mode", it can be difficult to truly switch off. You might get enough hours of sleep, yet still wake feeling tired, foggy or unrefreshed.

A well-regulated nervous system is able to shift into its natural "rest and restore" state better - the state where healing, recovery and quality sleep happen.

At Soul Aura Chiropractic our focus is on supporting your nervous system so your body can do what it was designed to do.
Because better days often start with better nights 🌙💛

✂️"It's just a haircut..." - unless your nervous system has other plans! 😅

Some kids are extra sensitive to everyday touch - hair brushing, clothing, light touch, certain textures or even having their hair washed can feel much bigger than we might expect.

And while being sensitive to touch doesn't automatically mean retained neonatal reflexes, it can be one of the clues we look at when assessing how a child's nervous system is responding to the world around them.

Retained neonatal reflexes are primitive movement patterns that are essential in early life, but they're designed to integrate as the brain and nervous system mature. When they don't integrate as expected, they may contibute to things like heightened sensitivity, coordination difficulties, poor body awareness or challenges with certain everyday activities.

At Soul Aura Chiropractic, we don't just look at the behaviour - we want to understand what the nervous system is communicating.
Because sometimes the question isn't "Why is my child reacting like this?".
It's "What is their nervous system trying to tell us?"

🎒What if your child was carrying an invisible backpack every day?

Imagine walking around with a backpack full of bricks. You'd probably feel tired, frustrated, and find everyday tasks much harder.
For some children, retained neonatal reflexes can feel a bit like that invisible backpack.

They're not physically carrying extra weight, but their nervous system may be working much harder than it needs to. This can sometimes show up as:
✏️Difficulty with handwriting
🤸Clumsiness or poor coordination
🎯Trouble focusing
😣Emotional overwhelm
⚡Constantly being "on the go"

These reflexes are completely normal in babies, but they're designed to integrate as the brain develops. When they remain active, everyday activities can feel much more demanding than they should.

That's why we created this fun skit - to show what some children may be experiencing in a way that's easy to understand.

When we support the nervous system, we're helping take some of that invisible weight off, so kids can learn, move and thrive with greater ease 💛

🧠The patterns formed in early childhood can shape a lifetime.

Before a child learns to read, write or ride a bike, their nervous system is busy building the foundation for every milestone to come.
Part of that foundation is the integration of primitive (neonatal) reflexes. These reflexes are essential for survival in infancy, but they're designed to gradually integrate as a child's brain and nervous system mature.
When they don't, they can sometimes contribute to challenges with coordination, balance, focus, emotional regulation, posture and learning.

That's why the early years matter so much.

At Soul Aura Chiropractic, we assess how a child's nervous system is developing and look for signs that retained neonatal reflexes may be affecting their potential. Supporting the nervous system early helps create the best foundation for healthy growth and development.
Because when the foundation is strong, everything built on it has the opportunity to flourish 🌱

If primitive reflexes could talk.... this is probably what they'd say 😂🧠

Not every child who has retained neonatal reflexes shows obvious signs.
Sometimes it looks like:
✏️Struggling to hold a pencil
😵Being easily startled or overwhelmed
🏃‍♂️Constantly on the go
🤸Clumsy movements or poor coordination
🎯Difficulty concentrating or sitting still

These reflexes are completely normal in babies - they're designed to help newborns survive and develop. But if they don't naturally integrate as a child grows, they can continue to influence how the nervous system functions.

If some of these signs sound familiar, it doesn't automatically mean your child has retained reflexes - but it may be worth having them assessed.
Because when we understand WHY a child is struggling, we can better support them to thrive.

The first years of life are when the brain builds the foundation for everything that follows 🧠

Every movement, every milestone, and every new skill depends on a well-organised nervous system. One important part of that development is the integration of primitive (neonatal) reflexes.

These reflexes are designed to help babies survive and develop in the early months of life. But if some reflexes don't integrate when they're supposed to, they can continue influencing how a child learns, moves, focuses, regulates emotions, and interacts with the world.
That's why early childhood is such a powerful window of opportunity.

At Soul Aura Chiropractic, we assess how the nervous system is developing and look for signs that retained neonatal reflexes may be affecting your child's progress. Through gentle chiropractic care and tailored recommendations, we aim to support the brain-body connection so children can grow, learn, and thrive.

Every child develops differently - but when the nervous system is supported, it has the best opportunity to do what it was designed to do.

If you've been wondering whether retained neonatal reflexes could be playing a role in your child's challenges, we'd love to help.
