Spring is here, and after the slower, heavier months of winter, our bodies might feel ready for a little more movement.
In Ayurveda, spring isn’t a time for harsh cleanses or doing anything extreme. Instead, it is a time to gently support the body as the season changes. You might consider emphasising lighter foods, movement, time outside in nature (and in the sun) and practices that help shift some of the heaviness that may have accumulated over winter.
Abhyanga can be a beautiful part of this transition. The warm oil and rhythmic massage helps encourage circulation and lymphatic flow, nourishes the skin and tissues, supports the nervous system and brings a sense of movement back into the body.
While spring naturally brings more energy and activity, I also love that Abhyanga gives us permission to receive. To lie down, be cared for and allow the body to soften rather than turning the new season into another list of things we need to do.
