It was a fantastic evening of engaging discussion and shared learning across a range of pediatric and women's health topics.

A highlight of the evening was introducing three new specialists who are now welcoming new patients from across NQ

A new healthcare training pathway is now available in Townsville for First Nations and multicultural communities!

Delivered by Mater Education, the Certificate II in Health Support Services is designed to provide students with practical, hands-on training in a real-world healthcare environment here at Mater Private Hospital Townsville.

In partnership with On Common Country Townsville, Regional Development Australia Townsville and NWQ (RDATNWQ) and the Townsville Multicultural Support Group, the program supports 20 students to build skills for careers in healthcare.

This project is funded through the Workforce Australia Local Jobs program, funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, and supports collaborative local initiatives that connect people with training and employment opportunities in industries experiencing workforce demand.

After battling breast cancer, 34-year-old Jess Reck made the life-changing decision to study a Diploma of Nursing and dedicate herself to caring for others.

“What I went through was really challenging and I think that experience drove me to want to be there for people at their lowest point,” she said.

“I know exactly how that feels and I just want to do what I can for others.” 💚

Jess is one of 25 students who have just graduated with a Diploma of Nursing at Mater Education Townsville. 🎉🎓

Soon she'll start working as a graduate Enrolled Nurse in the operating theatres at Mater Private Hospital Townsville.

Mater Education is excited to deliver a customised Certificate II in Health Support Services, commencing in July 2026, supporting First Nations peoples and multicultural communities with hands-on healthcare training.

Delivered in partnership with On Common Country Townsville, Regional Development Australia and the Townsville Multicultural Support Group, this 12-month program gives students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a real-world hospital environment and kickstart their career in healthcare.
