WHAT IS PDRN? 🧬✨

PDRN is becoming increasingly talked about in regenerative aesthetics—but what exactly is it?

PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) consists of purified DNA fragments, commonly derived from salmonid sources. It has been investigated for its role in tissue repair, wound healing and skin regeneration.

Research suggests PDRN may influence tissue repair through mechanisms including adenosine A₂A receptor activation and nucleotide salvage pathways.¹ ²

✨ Why is it being used in skin treatments?

Emerging research suggests PDRN and related polynucleotide treatments may support:

• Skin repair and regeneration
• Fibroblast activity and extracellular matrix remodelling
• Skin hydration and elasticity
• Improvement in skin texture and overall skin quality
• Recovery following selected aesthetic procedures¹–⁴

Importantly, this is an evolving area of aesthetic medicine. While results are promising, current studies are relatively small and protocols and formulations vary. More high-quality clinical research is still needed.³ ⁴

At PAUSE Cosmetic Skin Clinic, we believe in understanding the science behind regenerative treatments—not simply following the latest trend.

🧬 Supporting skin quality, repair and regeneration.

WHY ISN’T YOUR SKINCARE WORKING?

You’ve invested in the serums.
You’ve bought the “best” moisturiser.
You’re consistent with your routine…

So why aren’t you seeing the change you expected?

Because a great product isn’t necessarily the right product for your skin concern.

A 2025 systematic review and network meta-analysis examined 23 randomised controlled trials involving 3,905 participants and found that topical treatments varied in their effectiveness across different features of facial photoageing, including fine lines, coarse wrinkles, pigmentation and skin roughness.

The takeaway?

👉 Skincare should be targeted, not guessed.

At PAUSE Cosmetic Skin Clinic, we assess the skin first, identify what we’re actually trying to improve, and then build a treatment and homecare plan around it.

Because sometimes the answer isn’t more skincare.

It’s more appropriate skincare.

ASSESS → UNDERSTAND → TREAT

🎓 A little professional milestone I’m very proud to share.

I’ve officially completed my Professional Certificate of General Dermatology, delivered by HealthCert Education and quality-assured by Bond University.

As a Registered Nurse working in skin and aesthetics, continuing education is incredibly important to me. Skin is complex, and expanding my knowledge of dermatological conditions helps me take a more informed, evidence-based approach to assessing the skin, recognising when something may require medical review, and providing safe and appropriate care.

For me, education isn’t about collecting certificates, it’s about continually improving the standard of care I provide to my patients at PAUSE Cosmetic Skin Clinic.

Another step forward in an area of healthcare I genuinely love. 🤍

Ever wondered why a pimple suddenly “comes to a head”?

It’s not random, it’s part of the inflammatory process happening inside a blocked hair follicle.

Sebum and dead skin cells can contribute to follicular blockage. As inflammation develops, immune cells and cellular debris can accumulate, creating the familiar white or yellow centre of a pustule.

🔴 The redness? Inflammation.
⚪ The white centre? Immune cells + cellular and follicular debris.

And squeezing it isn’t always the answer. Picking or squeezing an inflamed pimple can increase inflammation and may contribute to pigmentation or scarring.

Sometimes the best approach is simple: hands off and support your skin barrier.

Why does your jawline become less defined as you age?

It’s rarely caused by just one thing.

Your jawline is shaped by multiple anatomical layers working together:
• 🦴 Bone provides the structural foundation.
• 💪 Muscles contribute to support and movement.
• 🧬 Retaining ligaments and connective tissue help maintain facial position.
• 🫧 Fat pads provide contour and volume.
• ✨ Skin forms the outer layer and contributes to overall definition.

Over time, natural age-related changes can occur in each of these layers. Bone remodelling, changes in fat distribution, reduced skin elasticity, and alterations in connective tissue support may all contribute to a softer or less defined jawline.

This is why no two faces age the same way—and why understanding facial anatomy is an important part of developing an individualised treatment plan.

A comprehensive consultation allows a qualified practitioner to assess your facial anatomy, discuss your concerns, and determine whether any treatment options are appropriate for your individual circumstances.

💙 August is Psoriasis Awareness Month 💙

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that affects around 2–3% of the Australian population. While there is no cure, appropriate medical management can help many people achieve good symptom control.

At PAUSE Cosmetic Skin Clinic, we use Dermalux® LED Phototherapy, a professional LED system that delivers clinically studied wavelengths of light. Photobiomodulation has been investigated for its ability to modulate inflammation, support tissue repair and improve skin health, and may be used as an adjunctive treatment for selected inflammatory skin conditions under appropriate clinical supervision.

Every skin journey begins with a comprehensive consultation to determine whether LED phototherapy is suitable for your individual needs. Where appropriate, we encourage ongoing management in collaboration with your GP or dermatologist.

If you’d like to learn more about professional LED phototherapy and whether it may be appropriate for your skin concerns, book a consultation with our team.
