All the best intentions, never a task finished. It’s dog, toddler and horse proof right?

This morning I woke up, got up as I would to think about going to the gym and ended up back in bed. Normally, this would end up in a bit of a shame spiral for me, but I recognize it this morning. I had something big and scary for the way that my brain works. I have been invited to do something this morning that I’ve not done before and I have very little information about how it will go. Where I work with people in developing tools so that when they caught out in the moment, they have a tool bag that they can use and get through situations. This morning my tool bag was some quiet music, a coffee on the couch, taking time to make myself feel good and look good, organizing my thoughts in my diary. Now to put on some clothing and look at the part to play. So often I hear that people want to secure work first and then sort out the barriers later, but we don’t turn up to a ballet performance and figure out how we’re going to do the dance while we’re on stage in front of people. we practice. we practice. we practice. so that, when we’re in the middle of the performance, the next step is automatic. This is why we do capacity building and we build your toolbox before we send you off to apply for jobs - so that, when the moment counts, you know how to survive and thrive

A toddlers brain where the idea of strong independent women go to die. I guess I’ve achieve the goal of having a flexible work life balance, so that I can be around for him if this is his perception.

Last night when I posted about my graduation I caught myself saying “ how can I help, what do you need?” We don’t always know what that is. So what else can we say to help someone who’s going through a big life change instead?

Where to start! This graduation hit differently! Maybe because the undergrad was what society expected of that 17yo choosing uni courses and the Post Grad is for me. At the risk of being vulnerable, I hope you read this and take the message as someone who always looks for other solutions and ways around road blocks and that is how I work with you! Never giving up, always finding a solution. Maybe the message could also be that if you’re in a leadership position or where you have influence and impact, instead of failing someone - maybe sit down and ask “ how can I help, what do you need to succeed”.

I am so honoured to have been faculty nominated and selected for the La Trobe Excellence Academy. I’m speechless because I see the girl that didn’t get into uni first rounds and had to find another way in, that failed stats twice and had to do it a third time in my undergrad; therefore not getting into the necessary honors to advance my psych career. I was rejected for the post grad course I applied for ( after trying multiple things in between that didn’t quite work out but added to the hecs bill). Luckily associate professor Paul let me in via a grad cert completion recommendation. The first half of the masters in 2019 and now the full masters and an applied research stream! Today I submitted an EOI to present my research at a conference.
I don’t even recognise myself! At 35 (next month) I feel I’m finally becoming who I was always meant to be, or maybe I have just found a way to live life authentically as me. Also, realising how the undiagnosed ADHD likely affected my education in all of the above 🫣 but hey, the tax man loves it.
Thank you to Lisa & Brendon, Associate Professor Rwth & Ali. Special mention to Audrey at the library too! But most of all, Thankyou to my husband who picked up the slack and my child who didn’t understand why every Tuesday night I had to sit at the computer.

Most people who struggle to find or keep work don't need more advice. They need someone to tell them it wasn't their fault.
That's the book I wrote.
The Work You Deserve is for NDIS participants who've never had a job and don't know where to start - and for the ones who've had jobs but couldn't sustain them. It's also for the families, carers, and support coordinators trying to figure out what's actually missing.
What's missing, almost always, is the right support at the right time. This book walks you through what that looks like - in plain English, with no jargon, and no judgment.

If it lands, share it with one person who needs to read it.

Calling families, coordinators and educators — we’re co-designing a SLES Service🙏
Pine Mountain has been asked whether we’d run a Equine Assisted SLES (School Leaver Employment Supports) service using our equine-assisted, farm-based approach. Before we build anything, we want the community to help shape it - what should it include, what should it avoid, who is it really for, how often should it run.
We’ve put together a short co-design survey for parents (future, current and past SLES families), support coordinators, teachers and anyone else with skin in the game. 5–7 minutes. There’s also an option to be the first to know when intake opens.
Join the co-design: https://forms.gle/vZ3MgZDvqCdTnKPa8
Please share widely - the broader the input, the better the program. Thank you 🌿
