DO YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO?
Australia is home to some of the world's most venomous snakes, but knowing the correct first aid could save a life!

π WHAT TO DO IF SOMEONE IS BITTEN

Call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
β
Keep the person still and calm.
β
Lay them down and reassure them.
β
Apply a broad pressure bandage over the bite site.
β
Continue bandaging from fingers or toes up the limb.
β
Splint the limb and keep it immobilised.
β
Note the time of the bite and when the bandage was applied.
β
If they become unconscious and are not breathing normally, start CPR and use an AED if available.
π« WHAT NOT TO DO π«
β Don't wash the bite area.
β Don't cut the wound or try to suck out venom.
β Don't use a tourniquet.
β Don't try to catch the snake.
β οΈ SIGNS & SYMPTOMS
Watch out for the following:
β’ Nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea
β’ Headache, dizziness or drowsiness
β’ Blurred or double vision
β’ Drooping eyelids
β’ Difficulty speaking or swallowing
β’ Pain or tightness in the throat, chest or abdomen
β’ Breathing difficulties

Snake venom spreads through the lymphatic system, which is why keeping the casualty still and applying a pressure immobilisation bandage is so important.
