✨I was introduced to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy(ACT) in 2016 & I have been using ACT ever since…

🧠I truly would not know what I would do without it…
➡️So many benefits…
* It allows me to have a certain mindset… a perspective… an awareness…
* ACT allows me to tune into my body, my environment and the people and places around me…
* ACT has helped me to reduce my stress and worry.
* ACT has helped me handle uncomfortable thoughts and unpleasant feelings more effectively…

⚖️So as I embark upon this strength journey I will encounter all sorts of issues and obstacles along the way…
🧠🏋🏽‍♀️There will be obtrusive thoughts and feelings of anxiety, self- doubt and fear…

🧠🏋🏽‍♀️Thank goodness for ACT in this journey…

💊Not an expert in this area and I will never pretend to be.

👀So I sought advice from my GP and various allied health practitioners.

🏋️Strength training to build up bone density is not all about “lifting the heavy weights”.

🛌Good quality sleep is equally as important…

🧠And of course underpinning this whole journey is .act

🧠This journey would not be where it is currently without embedding Acceptance and Commitment Therapy skills daily.

Pilates repertoire.

⚖️Joint tolerance and strength training work
symbiotically…
➡️So ongoing Pilates practice challenges…
* my balance
* my flexibility ( yes, even being hypermobile)
* my ranges of motion
➡️Ongoing Pilates practice continues…
* to lubricate my joints
* to provide my rehabilitation
* to strengthen my knees
* maintain my thoracic spine and rotation
* strengthen my core( including the pelvic floor)

AND…

➡️Mindfully engaging in Pilates and the Pilates
principles of…
* The breath
* The concentration
* The control
* The precision
* The flow
will continue to enhance my strength journey.

💡So that is why BOTH Pilates AND strength training are equally as important…done separately, not combined…
💡Load matters for osteoporosis, so that is why this strength training exists in my life…

This journey started end Winter 2025 so I choose the smallest weight.
All SMART goals need to be realistic…start small and build up slowly from there… ❤️

▶️I may not know everything about weight lifting, and some things I am not quite clear on…
▶️But I do have…
* years of training
* a library of knowledge
* wisdom acquired over time
* personal experience
* mentors I look up to and can seek out

▶️And I do have an idea about…
* ex*****on of movements
* the role of the breath
* the impact the breath has on the pelvic floor
* the concept of fascia
* hyper-mobility

➡️All helping me to have the courage to take my life in a new direction… and to be willing to acknowledge the discomfort and anxiety that will inevitably show up along the way

🧠BUT…really… this health and movement journey feels frightening!

After all, this is not going to feel good, it will be uncomfortable…

💡Come back to ACT…
❗️ACT does not state that taking action, value- guided action is going to feel good… is going to be “easy - peasy, lemon - squeezy”… no discomfort involved…no discourse experienced…

➡️Rather ACT works on the principle of WORKABILITY…is this action working to help me build the sort of life I want?To live the sort of life I want to live?

of uncomfortable thoughts & unpleasant

❗️So let’s reconnect with my VALUES and the fact that VALUES connect me what is in my control…to move and behave like the sort of person I want to be…

* what I do with my arms and upper body.

* what I do with my speech.
* what I do with my actions- to continue my strength training program and to ultimately teach to others…
