SOUND ON ! 🔊

This is what music therapy’s all about.. a safe space to express and develop. No explanation needed.. this IS Music therapy! 🥹

Here we’re using the containment of a familiar song - ‘Hand in my pocket - Alanis Morisette’ we leave gaps for the client to fill in their own thoughts, feelings, ideas 💡

If you’re wondering - we’re working in self/expression, confidence, emotional awareness and decision making !

Also - who doesn’t love ‘Hand in my Pocket’ 👋🎶🔥

Honestly the growth we’ve seen in this client of ours has been nothing short of magic.. ✨🪄

Before coming to us he hadn’t touched the keyboard, now he’s playing songs and riffs on the ‘regulation station’ 🎹

The confidence and joy we see from him now is NEXT LEVEL.
He’s expressing himself more, even rapping now..
He ended the session with some Travis Scott style autotune self-directed play on the iPad making beats and recording ! So cool 😎 🎶

Term 2 at Peterborough School just gets more and more creative !

The students have been developing their choice & agency, confidence, positive engagement, & leadership skills.

Students explored the underwater world through music, creating a live soundtrack with ocean-inspired instruments while taking turns leading and supporting each other 🤝

A fun interactive session that built on creativity, listening, teamwork, and confidence! 🐟🐠🐡🦈

What sound would you add to an underwater soundscape? 👇

🎸 We love what we do!

For this client, who has always wanted to play guitar, we’re using an adaptable guitar stand setup that allows adjustments to both height and tilt angle 🤘

The stand supports his physical participation by positioning the guitar in a way that better suits his range of motion. This makes it easier for him to fret notes on the guitar neck while strumming, helping him engage more independently and successfully in playing the instrument.

One of the great benefits of this setup is that he can simply walk up to the guitar and play from a different angle, creating more opportunities for meaningful participation and musical expression.

For some clients who learn in different ways we need to explore different ‘access points’ ! 🎶🎮

We’ve recently found this music-based game and it’s been AWESOME for our clients of all abilities ! 🙌

To move the chord runner character forward you need to match the chords on screen.
Play chord = reward, feedback + more chords to ‘jump over’🏃‍♂️

We’ve been using ‘learning mode’ which shows the music keyboard diagram, and there’s options to limit the amount of notes/chords so you can start easy and go from there 🤙🏻

It’s exercise in disguise - for your brain 🧠

The work Registered Music Therapists do is HECTIC ! Let me tell you 🎶

Here is a client playing the 80ms drum-kit with his eye-gaze. Definitely give me a run for my money with the drum fills 🥁

Look forward to seeing this legend tomorrow and meeting him in the music..

Really cool exploring and self-directed play from one of our clients today! 🎵

He’s been loving the delay effect on the microphone and our dice number game 🎲 roll the dice, catch it, and play that number of instruments around the room.

It’s a fun way to encourage flexibility, decision-making, and exploration of different instruments in the space.

He’s come a long way !! 🤙🏻

A client said something the other day that stuck with us..

I WANT TO LIVE HERE.. ✨

This is one of our favourite reviews 🤩 Here’s why !
It tells us so much:
- He feels safe & supported
- He has choice & agency & sessions are built around his strengths/interests
- He’s developing & learning new skills which he can use outside of the session & in his everyday life for (expression, calm, regulation)

Pretty much sums it up how much he’s loving & getting out of our sessions !! 😊🎶
